If we are talking about him playing centrally and mopping up, chasing down etc. I rather spend that money on a quality DM, or better still a CM who can do that as well as offering a bit more dynamism going forward (Lallana for instance). As for out wide, nah. If we are chasing a game he'd be the last face I'd want to see coming on. At best he could help out defensively from out wide if we are looking to close down a game but I think we can manage that from within the squad TBH. Either way not for me. Also as Vic pointed out we should be focusing on first team.

He's a solid pro yes, beyond that I'm struggling. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Given the lack of quality/available FB's in the league I expect we will look abroad. For £27m (Shaw fee) you could pick up two top level FB's and still have change left over.

£27m or whatever the price being quoted for Shaw is a ridiculous amount to spend on a FB, even allowing for the English player tax. At that price let the Mancs/Chelsea fight it out. Zabaleta, arguably one of the best FB's in the league cost in the region of £7m.

Agree, this is not to say he's crap playing at the head of the diamond but I don't think we get the best out of him there. Personally I loved it when we played the three S' up top and Coutinho in that position, seemed to play out best football under this system...
