    It’s been woeful since PSG back in March and we basically phoned in the last four games of last season once the title was done, it’s an embarrassing mentality that’s come back to haunt us now. Players simply not trying because they either don’t feel they have to or just plain can’t be arsed.

    We wildly overspent on players that don’t fit a 4-3-3 and didn’t address critical areas like the six we’ve needed for years. We should have been finding a long-term replacement for Salah, a proven CB, a solid holding midfielder (6) and and an upgrade on Gakpo.

    Gomez versatility is what’s kept him here so long, but he’s proved many times he’s can’t be trusted to concentrate for 90 mins at the back and given away tonnes of mistakes. I’d have shipped him and upgraded one or two seasons ago. Never gets into form and when he does he’s crocked again, ditto Jones.

    We had some dire and slow first halves last season but that first five mins was as bad as anything I can remember. Virge’s volleyball serve for the pen was just taking the piss.

    Whatever they did pre-season it wasn’t anything to do with fitness or tactics, transitions or whatever they call it now. Looks like rondos with a rugby ball and passing the goldon haze dutchies pon de left hand side.
