I'd rather sign Delph for a reasonable price and put the money towards two lads for the front six than the oft discussed "top CM". The latter will want playing every week whereas we just need another cog in there for now. And completely agree on the bold.

Disagree with that on Coutinho. In that he doesn't offer you the goals to be considered a forward. Sterling still arguably not clear. I think I'd like him to have three proper forwards to pick one or two from. And have four lads who can play in a three in a 4231. Seven distinct options for the front four positions who you would be OK with starting a European Cup Final. Flexibility is crucial. That’s seven of which he currently has four – Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge, Coutinho. I think one more can be either Suso and Borini. So he needs two new players. Behind he needs to pick two from Gerrard, Lucas, Allen and Henderson. Probably doesn’t need a fifth and has youngsters to blood. That’s 11 in total for the front six including two new players. At the minute he has eight he likes for the front six and the league table's looking pretty good. Much more than two new players for those positions is overkill and could be counterproductive, especially with reference to what Mike is saying earlier about the cohesiveness of this team. I don’t think it matters if he has a billion defenders or eight. He just wants better players in one on one situations.

Sterling?

I think that's likely to be money you'd rather put somewhere else, though you could make an argument that if you got Lallana and Muriel you are covering four positions not two. I think we need to work out what is the fewest number of players which allows us to get to the European Cup semis and challenge for the title is. The small group suits the manager I think.

Delph good enough technically? Think the apex of that midfield is fascinating now given that Sterling's laying a marker down. Means that letting Alberto go we have him, Coutinho and Suso all able to play there. Key Suso question isn't if he is technically good enough or creative enough but if he's good enough at winning it back. Sterling's flexibility is why I'd buy two attackers. Muriel link interesting in this regard. Can play wide, behind or lead the line. Him plus one in means Borini can go and we should have two attacking game changing options on the bench every week.

Make an Ilori based decision on Skrtel. Cissokho and Moses go back anyway.
