The Times' football coverage is streets ahead of The Guardian, The Independent and The Telegraph. Streets ahead. Not least because they all seem to like English football and not treat it like a bad c***. In short there's every chance he's doing something very right professionally.

I don't really see the burning need to rank any of these sides against one another or to end up in polarised positions in the discussion. The treble winning side could beat this one in a one off game. This one could beat the treble team, the 08/09 side could beat the treble one, this one could beat the 08/09 one. The treble side was magic, we have as much claim as anyone to say that in the 00s, a decade without any side able to lay claim to continental dominance, we were a great and genuinely feared side in European competition. We can say that without the league win because it is true. This side will scare the life out of people next season. Because of the football it plays and because it is a Liverpool side. You learn to be scared of them. They are good at football.

The essence of your argument is that we are the best team in Europe. I agree and expect we're going to Berlin next year.
