  1. At least Shearer said the Terry pantomime was dubious. He coulda totally slated him of course but was surprised he even acknowledged the naffness of the whole panto -made a bit of a change from the wishy washy blandness of Ian Wright on the Wenger topic. For a programme that's always shown after the watershed MOTD is as anodyne as Blue Peter or Barney the feckin Dinosaur though
  2. Agree with this. Not so small a gripe either!
  3. Beyond ridiculous even
  4. My bet is on "Liverpool simply had to win but have been dropping points against lesser teams all season, including each of their last 3 home games. Could they get the win they needed against Middlesbrough"
  5. Fantastic stuff, real 'Roy of the Rovers' style finale. Well in Dirk.
  6. This is yet another thing that frustrates me about how superficial most of footie coverage is on TV. There are loads of issues worthy of proper debate and investigation but all the punditry you get on telly is at the same level that I was reading in Shoot and Goal magazines when I was ten years old. You could easily have a weekly investigative Panorama-style programme delving into all the murky money stuff in modern football -agents, betting, contracts, bidding for world cups, fifa, club ownerships, etc etc etc
  7. Enjoyed reading that, the club seems to have a good approach to how they develop the young 'uns.
  8. He announced that a few weeks ago didn't he?

  12. Saw a passing mention of this in The Guardian today. 'Quiet Genius', biog of Bob by Ian Herbert. Due out in May. Details here: http://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/quiet-genius-9781472937353/
  13. Could go on to be a top coach, always came across as very thoughtful and perceptive in interviews that I've read.
  14. There's bound to be some Bosman-style courtroom showdown over the issue, you'd imagine; especially with clubs losing key players mid season for AFCON. The Matip thing is infuriating.
  15. Didn't Shankly try to sign Banks at one stage?
  16. He's been a good pro and steady performer throughout his time with the club. And his befriending of Barnesy10 has further warmed all our hearts! For all the affection, his tendency to concede free kicks around the edge of the box with ill-timed/executed tackles has often had me cursing aloud at the TV. If we upgrade his 7/8 outta10 performances with someone who delivers regular 8/9s then it's all to the good.

  19. I look forward to him bagging his second ever goal for us.
  20. Delighted to see Woodburn score, always a thrill to see a rookie make their mark. Here's hoping he will have a mighty career with LFC
  21. I found the book moving and compelling, the style perfectly captured Shankly's mono-mania and driven passion and yes, the ending is heart-wrenchingly brilliant
  22. I am an old fart, I'll be 57 in a couple of weeks. It was the charisma, passion and wit of Bill Shankly that first thrilled my soul about Liverpool, and then (on TV from my Donegal home) seeing and hearing the Kop in full voice affirmed me as a passionate addicted LFC loyalist. I am still as commited and fixated now as when I was all those years ago. Shanks was amazing, a pillar of an old value system that is now gone quite apart from his managerial brilliance. David Peace's novel Red or Dead isgreat
  23. Yeh but that's unforgiveably thick getting a booking for shirt-removal, stupider than dissent. Mind you, also stupid that shirt removal is deemed a yellow card offence.
  24. Yes to both. Why the feck do players take their shirts off knowing they are likely to get a yellow card, talk about picking up idiotic bookings.
