Yeh there has been a terrible talent drop off over the past couple of generations or so. Jack Charlton had Ronnie Whelan, Martin O'Neill has to make do with Glenn Whelan and there are parallel talent-slumps right across the team/squad and bugger all young diamonds waiting to break through from the lower age groups. Coaching is part of the problem sure but probably also that the big clubs now cast their nets worldwide for young players so harder for the kids from the two Irelands, Scotland etc to be picked up by them.

Well, just to balance that in the cosmic karma vibes I am meeting up with LFC fans to watch the mach in boozer partly to commemorate a passionate Red who passed away last week. Hopefully his spirit will nudge a goal or two across the line.

I remember going over for a game v Leicester when he actually converted a penalty; he missed a good few. He was electrifying though in those first few years.
