The problem is that today he isnt even doing the simple stuff well, normally you can count on him to be able to pass the ball about 5 yards. His limitations (and there are many) are well known, he slows down play too much, rarely passes the ball in a incisive way. I would play Masch and Gerrard in CM

We have had a terrible season but I honestly think Rafa deserves one more to try and put it right. However it would appear to me that purslow and co by not giving him the assurances he needs are trying to force him out the easy way, of his own volition. The problem is that Torres is having to feed off scraps as there is no link between midfield and attack, we need to drop that toothless t*** Lucas and play Gerrard in Central Midfield. Play AA behind Torres, and start playing Babbel more. We need out and out wingers, pace directness and someone to carry the ball.

Exactly, they labour on the ball so much. At lease last year we were playing with pace and moving the ball quickly. Nowadays we just hoof it long every 30 seconds

While we keep playing it safe in CM we are never going to really open teams up, Lucas is a good squad player, the type you bring on when you need to shut a game down he is not someone you need to open up defences. He cant shoot, cant head and he slows down the play too much. I think Masch has really developed this year, due to Lucas's inability to pick out a pass more than 5 yards he has started knocking it around but its not enough. Bring Gerrard back into CM alongside Masch and play AA behind the striker or maybe benny, how much did time did Gerrard get on the ball today? I know he is off form but if he isnt getting the ball or any supply then whats the point? He cant always make something out of nothing...and this season he really is struggling anyways.

I think the game showed that Gerrard needs to brought back into CM, we looked alot more purposeful when he dropped back. I know Arsenal were sitting deep but we looked alot better, Maxi didnt really add anything, I think Babbel should get a run in the team. At least he has some pace and if he turns up can at least cause a threat.
