I disagree, it depends entirely on who the players are and what they have contributed to the team and still have to offer. Suarez is absolutely key to our team, one of the few truly world class talents (even with his inconsistant finishing), Skrtel and Agger are a great central defensive pairing who compliment each other perfectly, why would a incoming manager want to disrupt the one area (ie central defence) that actually appears to be functioning pretty well? We have bigger issues atm, surely any manager will want to prioritise the problem areas first?

Agree with that, its not like he is trying to give Carra another one. The above are vital to our team and long term success.

Agree, we have been crying out for that approach all season, it was one used by Rafa to good effect (well a variation in order to deal with the lack of pace from Carra / Hyypia). People still talk about Rafas "supposed" lacking man management skills...AVB appears to be on a whole new level!

I think AVB is an interesting proposition, he is the most realistic out of all the candidates and he does appear to love the game and was known for his tactical accumen at Porto and IIRC was used by Mourinho to put together briefs on the teams they were due to play. The doubt I have is that even if you put aside all the player power at Chelsea, he never appeared to change his tactical setup, it was obvious a high defensive line wasnt suiting the team but he persevered, while at the same time alienating alot of players. Every good manager has a stubborn side, a belief in there system but you have to be able to adapt and he didnt show that at Chelsea. Unfortunately I think he is the main candidate for FSG and I expect he will be appointed next week. As other have said they want there own man and he fits that bill...especially as they were so interested in him post Roy but were unable to appoint him because of Kenny and were most likely put off by the compensation required.

As much as I want Rafa to come back I dont think its going to happen , i agree he is as close to a pair of safe hands (and by that I mean will get us challenging again) as were going to get but I just cannot see FSG/Ayre appointing him. IMO Ayre was involved in hiring Hogson and sacking Rafa, it doesnt surprise me that we have been linked with yet another one season wonder in Martinez (to add insult to injury its not even a season but 10 games). There is some chatter tonight from people who met Ayre at a racecourse and he apparently made it very clear that he isnt coming back. Plus Andy Heaton has said he hasnt been approached... At the same time, with the twitter ranting of Alan Kayall, Tompkins saying that Rafa had spoken to FSG, and there are some rumours going around that he said he has been approached on Spanish TV (though i expect thats twitter b****x) gives me some belief. I want to believe he will at least be given an opportunity to share his blueprint and vision but its a hope rather than a certainty.

Rafa not looking very likely, some tweets from people who ran into Ayre at the racecourse tonight, asked him a direct question in relation to Rafa to which Ayre responde "He is not coming back" - not much else was gleaned by all accounts.

Exactly, he works for a media organisation and tweets f*** o** FSG....doesnt sound like he works for them anymore imo, as i said in another thread I am sure a couple of weeks ago he had NESN in his twitter username, thats gone now too. Him sending that comment and then telling Tompkins to do one sounds to me like he has got the boot.

Agree, as others have said I thought he was employed by NESN/FSG...telling them F*** O** cant go down too well! I also noticed that for a period of time a few weeks ago he had NESN in his twitter name, thats also gone now...

Good post and your right, with G&H it was about appointing a media friendly t*** and a lowering of expectations. What is it with FSG? There is lots of talk and bluster about being the best and getting back into the CL...but how are they doing that? Too many conflicting stories and spin about, also....there is some talk about them wanting to hire the "next" Benitez or similar....well why dont they approach the real one!

Cheers I agree we crave an instant fix, I think we all want this situation resolved as quickly as possible but in the right way. I really hope they at least give Rafa the chance to set out his vision, the man is #LFC through and through and it appears they are putting a structure in place to allow the manager to focus on coaching (something alluded to by Ayre in one of his many interviews) and if thats something he can work within I think it could be ideal.

Apologies, I definitely could have presented it better...but I have been in and out this evening and everytime i step away for an hour or so something appears to happen. The problem is that there are too many conflicting stories about and unfortunately in most cases its a combination of Spin and journalists having no clue whats happening. One thing is reasonably clear though, only one place (This is Anfield - bad source) is mentioning that Rafa has been approached, no one else is.

Apparently there are also rumours that the DOF role is going to be abolished and split into two functions, one of which Pep Seguera (head of youth development?) will take up and the other will be a general manager of some kind. There are also rumours that Swansea have knocked back our request to speak to Rodgers. Looks like the Capello/Pep stuff is pretty much PR spin b****x tbh, Ayre has been doing a shed load of interviews. Also that lass Jen Chang has been appointed head of communications!

I guess there is too much stuff floating about, conflicting stories, we have approached X, appointed B, this person is on the shortlist...Ayre is going round giving everyone interviews...post Comolli being sacked it was all about the DOF position staying, today Ayre has revealed its being changed. Its perpetuating an image that they have no idea what there doing

Unbelievable really, the w*****...his exact words were to reccomend Rafa & Capello...serial winners in his opinion! Him sacking Rafa has caused all this s**** in the first place - f*** off purslow has never been so apt

Went for Rafa as I dont think we can get Klopp Rafa or Klopp for me, AVB would be an interesting shout but his time with the Chavs has me very concerned (even with all the player politics), I do however think that FSG want AVB
