I couldn't believe Bellamy didn't come on, but reading internet reports of us going for Bent & selling Bellamy, I did just wonder if we avoided cup tieing him? Bent seems to have the pace & power that Rafa is looking for, but I'm sure Villa would be his top target. We're 3-4 players away from a title team I believe.

Sissoko is a marked man by refs these days. That first legit challenge he was pulled up for a talking to was a disgrace. Poll didn't have his worst game yesterday, but he & the other high profile refs just wait for Sissoko to put a tackle in & they're on him from high. If Savage got the Momo treatment from Clattenburg the previous week he'd have been gone early, as with Neil same game, & half the Bolton team at that game.

So we got today what I expected......absolutely nothing. It's dissapointing for everybody here, but the fact is that we have now lost at Chelsea, Utd, Everton & Bolton and not scored a goal. Yet again any hope of the title is virtually extinct. I should normally give it 30 minutes after the final whistle, to calm down & then post. But today I felt resigned to my fate at half time, and as such have had an hour to compose my thoughts. Firstly, something is badly wrong...results don't lie. The Manager & Players need to have a long, long hard look in the mirror tomorrow morning as something has to change. Rafa is further away from getting it right in the league than 12 months ago. I would detail the facts as follows 1) We do not (period) take enough points from the big games...in fact hardly any. I'll tell you we'll draw at home to Utd, draw or lose to Chelsea, and possibly get 3 or 4 points from Everton & Bolton. True title aspirations don't build on such a sequence. We lack the belief & bottle to do it in big Premiership games. 2) Our defence is shocking this season. Today's space gifted to Scholes for the first goal was the 4th or 5th major c**k-up in a big game. That isn't big game player mentality. You can't prevent brilliance or a fluke (Drogba at Chelsea, not sure which it was!) but you can play a LOT better without lapse of concentration than we are. 3) Our Midfield is 10-20 yards too deep most times. I'm now fed up with how Momo, Stevie & Gerard can't make it work. It's time to change it & drop somebody. 4) Our wide players are not good enough. Gonzalez was like a frightened rabbit today, the time when Pennant lost control & it went out for a throw in summed it all up. Hindsight is wonderful but the extra few million for Alves looks a rueful mistake now doesn't it? 5) We lack big game mentality & can not retain possesion for long. I'm sure everybody screamed out today at most players giving the ball away without reason, including Gerrard & Alonso. 6) Gerrard goes missing in the games against challengers for the title, he bosses lower teams, European games & the Cup Final but when did he last do it in a game V Arsenal, Utd or Chelsea? Position may well have something to do with it but he is not a Souness in such situations...FACT. 7) The towel is thrown in too early when we get to 2-0, and at 1-0 we don't go for it with ferocity as we should. 8) Benitez has to play a settled formation & team where possible. I would be all for giving Agger.Gonzalez ( I May have been critical of him today but I'd give him a 10 game run to assess him fully) & others a long run. Rotation to the level we practice it is not working. Rafa has to face up to the fact that this is NOT Spain so learn now once & for all. 9) We lacked heart & bottle today, and I for one was numbed by the lack of never say die & can't stomach facing up to a Manc this week for the lack of fight. 10) We've now played the toughest away games bar Arsenal (oh good that's next) we should go the remainder of the season unbeaten to show any true potential....sadly I don't see it. It's a sad day, but I'm going to declare that I've got a gnawing feeling it's 2002 being repeated.
