Bruno Cheyrou is delighted to be playing a defensive midfielder role for Bordeaux. The 27-year-old is on loan from Liverpool having failed to make the expected impact in England following his move from Lille in 2002. He spent last season at Marseille on a similar deal, but he is now thriving in a new role at Bordeaux. "My role onto the pitch has changed a lot since Lille or Liverpool," said Cheyrou. "I am playing in the back, perhaps I will have fewer opportunities to shine, but I am happy. "I try to have some influence on the team, even if it is hard work. I think I found myself at ease in the new role. "At Liverpool, I played higher, just behind the forward, which didn't match my profile. I need to touch the ball a lot. Before coming to Bordeaux the officials said to me that they see me more in the centre. "I took it as a sign, inside of me I knew." -
