He actually plays the position quite like Gakpo does, very direct and wants to drive at the fullback, cut in and shoot. Both tall and strong as well so can attack crosses to the back post and outmuscle most full backs. Kind of a shame he hasn’t played there more but just well covered with Gakpo and Diaz. He has been terrible as a striker and there is no getting around that.

Nunez was actually far better, and more productive playing on the left than up front in Jurgen’s last season (the numbers back this up). He is fast and far better cutting in and striking the ball than he is attacking the ball as a striker.

I think Dom will move around midfield more next season. Wirtz will be first choice in the role he was in last season (and be dramatically more productive GA wise but still offer the pressing) and Dom will play deeper more, allowing more rotation without a drop in quality. I can see why Wirtz is excited to play in that role in our setup under Arne, it’s absolutely perfect for him.

We are in a good position with Diaz. I hope he stays for the next 2 years, then he can go cash in with our gratitude. Reckon he goes downhill after 30 due to his style of play but he’s a great asset now. His flexibility gives Arne lots of options. His Dad is surprisingly quiet, has anyone checked that he hasn’t been kidnapped again?

Diaz has had a great season. He’s always shown tons of graft and willingness to run at defenders, but he’s added in end product which was the big issue for me. His versatility has been a massive help too - very interesting that Arne was happy to move Diaz around but not Gakpo when Jurgen did the opposite, and both players have been significantly better for it. i hope he stays, think he was a major contributor to our title and the squad would be lesser without him. Keep the good players. The obvious answer here is to sell Nunez and Chiesa and sign Wirtz and a striker. That gives us one hell of a range of forward options.

i reckon he’ll still be absolutely top drawer for another 4 years. The Saudi stuff is weird to me as he doesn’t seem the type to go for purely the money, especially in a non Christian country (being a massive God Botherer).

If there is one thing FSG are exceptionally good at it is hiring the right people (allowing them one mistake with Rodgers). We were run really well transfer wise when Edwards was here last time, less well while he wasn’t here, now really f*cking good again. It’s no coincidence. Hughes seems to be highly thought of but it’s Edwards behind it all. I can see why FSG did everything in their power to bring him back.

Some great stuff about Wirtz been coming out - rang Kompany to let him down personally, enamoured with Anfield after playing there, bought into Slot’s tactical plan for him. Seems like the type of high character player we’ve targeted since Klopp joined.

Elliott makes loads of sense replacing Wirtz positionally. I think he could go on to be really good over there too.

He’s a great player to have in the squad if he’s happy with limited minutes. Defo reached cult hero status!

Elliott going the other way looks like it would be a great move for all concerned.

And this is where especially defenders and keepers need to be able to brush mistakes and knocks off. Both Virgil and Alisson have all the ability in the world but what makes them truly world class is their elite mentality. They still make errors but forget about them instantly.

Still positive about Quansah but think this is an important season for him. I think the ability is there, but for me I think he’s missing a bit of aggression / assertiveness / physicality - maybe confidence. If he looks sideways when he’s in the first team he’ll see plenty of all of that. He is still very young for a CB, loads of time for him but the slight worry is I think it would be fair to say that he has regressed from last season to this season.

What a guy. Very different character to Jurgen, but seemingly just as great a coach and fit with the club and the city. Hard to believe really.

Curtis looking confused by his tears on the bus then saying to Mo he’s doing it for the cameras was pretty damning (it looked clear that’s what he was saying). I dunno, Trent gives off a weird vibe. I’m glad for our benefit that he got a good reception after the last game, but I just can’t help feel a lack of sincerity from him. There’s just an arrogance underneath I don’t like, he thinks it’s all about him and has acted like that for some time. Glad it’s over with him and excited to watch Frimpong tearing up and down that right side of ours. If Real come to us in Europe I’ll boo the sh*t out of Trent with absolutely no conscience needed.
