Jacko's biannual brief fim review - The Village

Those moaning about it being dull should just avoid tournament football as it doesn't get a great deal better than this. Games always get tight when there's so much to lose and finals and semis are often tactical affairs. However in Italy versus Germany this tournament produced a genuine classic, that simply doesn't happen every time. If there was one criticism I'd make it's that the draw has been slightly lob sided with a lot of quality in the Italian side and a couple of dodgy teams, England spring to mind, in the lower half. Otherwise there's been lots of great football, some good refereeeing, at times excellent, good organisation, stadia and support. All in all, a first class World Cup.

I hate the idea of some d****ead messing about with the game to increase the number of goals. If you can't admire great defending or astute tactics then why watch football? It's been a great tournament.

David Beckham - Will he/should he get a knighthood?
Armin_Tamzarian replied to a topic in General Football Discussion
A knighthood is an insult to this paragon of all that is truly of value. The nation must immediately be renamed 'Great Beckham' in his honour and he must be declared our new Emperor. -

2006: The Most Boring World Cup Ever
Armin_Tamzarian replied to BigBird 's topic in General Football Discussion
It's been an excellent tournament so far. -
Redevelopment of Anfield is a non starter. Even once the Main stand had been redeveloped the facilities available in the Centenary aren't up to modern requirements. We'd still be lagging far behind our rivals. The rebuilding work that would be required would leave little of the original site standing. For that amount of disruption we'd be far better off starting afresh on a new site.

I hoped they'd give Iniesta a go. I think he has the ability to drive the team forward, carrying the ball into areas which would've really hurt the French. I'm not knocking Cesc as he's clearly a great talent, didn't really make it happen last night though.

They missed out one vital quatrain: Lo into the midst of battle, The Flying Frank doth clutch and moan, Phantoms besiege his face, Vainly he brings his hands forth to soothe his embattled brow, A strange black bird emits a piercing whistle, Verily Viera heads in at the far post, -

Germans v Swedes & Argies v Mexicans
Armin_Tamzarian replied to BDB 's topic in General Football Discussion
I thought the best team won, but it was a close call and if Heinze had been sent off it might have been different. Mexico deserve immense credit for their approach to the game. Argentina have frightening strength in depth and the steel to match their flair. -
Lampard better without Gerrard

Henry Winter is the worlds first 'embedded' sports journalist. Instead of being sequestered within a platoon in Iraq or Afghanistan, Henry has embedded himself as far up the a*** of the leading English squad players as would be possible without his face appearing when they smile for the cameras. There's no analysis from Henry, just a desperate attempt to pander to the desires of the highest profile names within the squad. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Lawton, Barclay or even the slightly compromised Hayward. -
Guide to watching Liverpool round the world
Armin_Tamzarian replied to Ramón Benítez Hernández 's topic in Liverpool FC
That's brilliant, I'll include a link to the list in the French section. I've included the other entries above, with the exception of the pign'whistle they were all new entries so thanks for those. Really need a South American entry or two, unless there really is nowehere on the entire continent to watch the reds... -

First off, I'm truly gutted for the lad. He gave me many a great memory when he donned the red shirt and I still don't think the full story has come out of exactly how he came to leave Liverpool or how much the club really wanted to keep such a high earner. At times like this I'd like to see the whole transfer fee business scrapped as this notion of Owen somehow oweing us a £25 million transfer fee and therefore screwing us doesn't sit easily with me at all. He owed us nothing but the time contracted to him, all the while he took the wages he gave his all and we were compensated for the time remaining. It wasn't as much as we'd have liked but slavery was abolished many years ago, except in my industry of course. I hope he makes a full recovery and fulfills as much of his talent as possible. I'll still give him a cheer when he comes back to Anfield, even if I'm the only one in a stadium full of embittered old husks holding grudges and wallowing in schadenfraude. Good luck Michael and thanks for all the goals, trophies and great memories. I'd say in his last year at Anfield Owen's movement in the final third was brilliant Lee. You could really see the influence of Rush in the runs Michael was making, unfortunately the team wasn't performing well enough to exploit them but the movement was definitely there. Perhaps he didn't close down quite as much as Rushie but he did still work for the team. I haven't seen much of his games with madrid or Newcastle so couldn't comment on those. For England he's obviously been off colour in the 3 games preceding his injury but at Euro 2004 he actually created many of Rooneys better chances through intelligent and diligent movement off the ball. He got little credit for it but he did it nonetheless.

Don't buy any more strikers after bellamy
Armin_Tamzarian replied to Huyton_Red's topic in Liverpool FC
I agree with Knox. Plus if Bellamy signs I doubt we'll retain Pongolle. -
I don't give a toss about a players profile. In some ways I'd rather sign relative unknowns, they have more to prove. I'd rather players make their name at Liverpool rather than come here on the back of efforts at other clubs. The higher the profile the bigger the ego and the more chance of them upsetting the current team ethic. Hopefully Rafa's special project deep beneath the mountains of tibet will soon be ready and we can begin taking delivery of our Dalglish clones. They're so anonymous they even have low profile tyres on their pushchairs.

Forget bricks and make stadium out of mud or straw. Laugh at other clubs wasting their time protecting against wolves as they'll never get promoted.

I've seen him linked before now. Hope it doesn't happen. He's a good player and it will be horrible to see a diehard red turning out for them.
