Liverpool have entered the race for Benfica's Manuel Fernandes after a possible move to Everton looks to have fallen through. Fernandes was set to join the blue half of Merseyside after he passed a medical at their Bellefield training ground but the fee remains to be a stumbling block for Bill Kenwright. Benitez has been alerted that he could persuade Fernandes to join Liverpool with the lure of Champions League football. I agree Makes you wonder though, in some ways Houllier was trying to pursue this strategy and fell out with Heighway - (interestingly so too has Rafa - by some accounts ) So lets ignore who's the better judge of talent Rafa or Houllier, my question is why wasn't this policy aggressively pursued earlier ?

Couple of points 1 its possible hes signed for the reserves only 2 its possible that he doesnt play "the dutch" way - maybe hes too physical or great at route 1 football ie holding up the ball, laying it off and scoring etc - this is often not seen as good enough for the dutch who seem more interested in dribbling and touch - in contrast it could be ideal for this league 3 ( I know couple implies 2 ) he could just be our Mista ( no more talk about broken wings - which we surely have )

The last Jordy to play in England wasnt THAT good .... anyhow anyone know much about this player I read somewhere that Brouwer ( why do I think of Jack Baur ??) Brouwer was a tall striker something like a cross between Crouch and Kuyt ... wonder if thats good ? Any ideas how good this player is and his playing style ?

A good message if when we shop for first teamers, we remove the not so good squad players Removing the not so good squad players gives you a chance to play for the team Having better players about you helps you improve - and "protects you" when you do play for the team Having better players means in some games rafa CAN gamble by playing younger players - therefore younger players could ironically get more games when better players arrive also the younger players would be under less pressure to be brilliant and could develop at their speed things aren't always as clear cut as they seem

wonder how much is sensational journalese here - PROVED is a stronger word that PROVING it implies definiteness my guess is Pennant is started to believe he CAN cut it here, he's starting to GET Rafa's requirements and his confidence is improving - I'll make my judgment at the end of the season, so far I think hes done ok but can do better I would like to see him take on and beat players more - play more precise crosses rather than just putting the ball into the danger area and score more goals - target this year 5 - next season 10 goals

I know its not likely the type of players I would like before next season starts Mascherano, Poulsen, Alves and a RB It would allow us to play an attacking 433 or a defensive 451 with every combination in between - Frankly I think it would just about make use unstoppable

well for me it would be great to get Poulsen, Mascherano and Alves we would then be able to play 433 and sweep all before us

Liverpool are reportedly ready to raid Ajax for youngster Jordy Brouwe. The Reds are believed to have agreed a deal to bring the Holland Under 19 international to Anfield. Brouwe has come through the ranks at Ajax's famed academy and he has caught the eye of Liverpool scouts with some impressive performances for club and country. I'll only answer that if you can tell me what a victory would lead too winning over MU and Arsenal = League - then I would take that over the CL if Winning over Barca = CL ( number 6 ) and we finished 3rd in the league - then I would take that over beating MU and Arsenal and finishing 2nd in the league with no CL trophy
