  1. que ?
  2. I still have hopes we'll sign him - dont want him playing at WHU or looking like he's going too - to he honest
  3. But he's not really a RM he's a CM
  4. so who are the best RM's ? and finally who are the RM's we stand a chance of getting ?
  5. anyone know why Curbishley is suddenly saying Mascherano is in his plans ????? source

    Heinze

He's not recovered from his previous injury AND his progress is SLOW therefore the physios dont think hell be back to what he was previously - I dont think it would be a good idea to sign him for 5m the risk would be too high
  7. Wow if only we had that money still if we are successful with Fifa Marcherano for 5m vs Owen H for 20m I know which I would prefer
  8. why is heinz out of favour hes seemed quite good when ever Ive watched him - also how much would he cost ? Guess he would be a good alternative to Neil
  9. if we get good "special treatment" we deserve it, if we dont, then Fifa etc are biased .... simple really I made the statement based on how it seems other clubs ( even Pompey) seem to get work permits easy and we had to wait for Mark Gonzales
  10. You just know that if this were man u - fifa would already be saying - no problem
  11. indeed, Carra had 2 own goals that year, the difference is though Carra got lots of games in which to improve
  12. We should never loan them abroad, we should preferably loan them to a lower end premiership team, or a Championship team agreed. The problem is getting them to play football - its easier for defenders but for attackers like Le Tallec the long ball day in and day out wasn't going to help - now had Le Tallec gone to Wigan I think he would have done better
  13. By Tim Vickery South American football reporter Gabriel Paletta celebrates scoring on his debut against Reading Paletta scored on his debut - but it has been all downhill since then and he has played just five games Gabriel Paletta's problems at Liverpool should come as no surprise - and should serve as a warning to young South Americans in similar situations. Last year this column argued that the Argentine centre back's move from Banfield to Anfield was a case of too much, too soon. There is a general rule when a player steps us a level, whether it be from juniors to reserves, from the reserves to the first team or from club to international football. Usually he will be OK if he can reproduce the quality of performance he was producing in the lower level. The problem in Paletta's case is that this does not apply. He has to learn to defend in a different way. Banfield are a traditional but relatively minor Argentine club, who play in tight, cramped stadium. They are not under the same pressure to attack as one of the big teams. It means that back at home Paletta was defending much closer to his own goal. If the ball was played behind him, it was the keeper's. A pair of holding midfielders swept up the danger in front of him. However, at Liverpool the defensive line is higher up the field. Gabriel Paletta struggles against Arsenal striker Julio Baptista His feeble efforts against Arsenal have prompted speculation over a loan deal to Spanish side Gimnastic In a type of football much faster than anything he has seen before he is taking up an unaccustomed position - one which all the while threatens to expose his lack of mobility. It is no wonder he has had problems. He has taken a leap which represents a dangerous risk at this stage in his career. There was a half way house between Banfield and top-class European football. Before Liverpool came in for him, Buenos Aires giants River Plate were very keen on Paletta. They were so close to signing him that he was even named in their squad for last year's Copa Libertadores. Joining River would have been the perfect move. While staying in his own culture he would have learnt much more about how to defend in an attacking team. Make a success of that, and the doors to Europe are open. Paletta skipped a stage, and is paying the price. It happens with so many South American careers and it is not hard to understand why such mistakes are made. From the player's point of view, when the Europeans come knocking it is difficult to refuse, even if the move is premature. Football is by its very nature an insecure profession. He might break a leg next month, and the chance may never come again. And there are plenty of other forces pushing him across the Atlantic. His agent may well be slobbering over a cut of the deal. Or his club might need the revenue to pay last month¿s wage bill. Or his registration could belong to an investment consortium anxious for a quick return. Promising young South American players can find themselves surrounded with an excess of financial interests, and a deficiency of good career advice. Interestingly I tend to agree with this, and whats more I think that we need more games for the reserves - when we buy youthful talent from abroad they need more games to adjust to our style of play - I think the lack of games affected Pongolle and Le Tallec
  14. This is my thinking Also playing a 3 in midfield means you can look for 2 creative players who score rather than one, 2 are harder to mark out of a game than 1 - then of course there's Gerrard driving from deep now with more freedom as he has 2 other CM's behind him a potent mix IMHO
  15. if we get mascherano liverpool are then 2 creative wide players away from being the team to beat IMHO Mascherano would allow Rafa to play a midfield 3 with everything Alonso - long range passing and counter attack playmaking Gerrard - great drive from midfield Mascherano - great defensive protection of the back 4 Momo - aggressive destruction of attacks Any 3 from those 4 would be a great balanced midfield say Alonso Gerrard and Momo when being aggressive and Alonso Gerrard Mascherano when being more defensive then Alonso, Momo, Mascherano with Gerrard on the RW when all hands to the pump defending a lead Add 2 creative wide players who can cross as well as score and you have great liverpool team in the making
  16. even more for keeping him buying Mascherano, two great wingers one Left and one Right wing - a striker to replace Fowler (Bent) and winning the league next season
  17. Thats exactly it - the academy should protect us from having to spend 6m on a squad player --- we should only be buying promising youngsters and players capable of walking into the first team as they are better than what we have
  18. well despite the fact that so many people on this forum hate Houllier, one thing he did know about was academies and he didnt like the way Heighway was running ours - now it seems to some degree Rafa agrees
  19. I think the biggest problem with our youth is they dont get enough games at the right level - this certainly impacted on Pongolle and Le Tallec
  20. Penant is improving but he has several weaknesses - the biggest one being his scoring ratio - typically from a wide creative player I would expect 10 goals a season
  21. so was that Young character any good ? worth the 9m price tag ?
  22. Now you see why Rafa goes abroad for all the young talent. You cannot get reasonably priced English talent (unless you're Tottenham ) The only problem with Foreign talent is that it takes them time to adopt to the English game, often they cant - often not because of talent but because they cant get enough games which is what I suspect is the case with Pongolle Anyway I hope Young is a top class RW as with Kewell, Gonzales, Leto, Aurelio we have enough Left Midfielders ( though so far non as good as Duff, Robben, Vicente ) what we need now are Right Midfielders
  23. Actually thinking we need an out and out goal scorer is wrong -- we need goals but not a goals scorer necessarily wait for it if we were to buy 2 creative wide players, I think they could provide enough assists for our current strikers to more than double their scoring average and that would be enough for us to improve as a team
  24. have we actually sold Cisse or is he on loan ? The sale of Cisse could cover 1/3 -1/2 of the Ribery fee
  25. when's Ferdinand arriving ?
