I'd have less sympathy for Trent than I have for Keegan, McManaman and Owen.
At the time the wages in Germany were far in excess of anything Keegan could earn at Liverpool. They were life changing and it was totally understandable he would put his family and future financial security first. Plus we got a very decent fee for him.
The club tried to flog McManaman to Barca the summer before. Loyalty cuts both ways. Also, his mum died the year before I think and he wanted a change of scene, get out of Liverpool the city. Add to this we were absolutely rubbish, he didn't support us as a lad and he gets the chance to go to Madrid and win things. Who could blame him?
Owen is similar to McManaman, we were rubbish (nobody saw Istanbul coming), he didn't support us as a lad, gets a chance to win things at Madrid and play with the Glacticos. At least we got some fee, which is more than we did with McManaman.
None of the above applies to Trent. He earns incredible money already, we are one of the best teams in the world and Liverpool are his club since he was a young lad. It's his decision, I wouldn't boo/abuse him for it but if he goes, of course his legacy/reputation at Liverpool is tarnished. How can it not be?
