Cheers for the heads up on the 4-0 screening. Beardo was immense as ever, he should have got more credit, even if he did play for the blues****.

Just watched that game on ESPN also. God, the Mancs really did have some shyte players in that match for them, Mark Robbins included, who, if he hadn't of scored that bloody goal..........

It was my 21st birthday that night.

Its all behind me now but I was off me head on "pounds shillings and pence", got back home to watch the highlights - no clock in the corner of the screen to try to make sense of it all - and suffered about a dozen nervous breakdowns trying to follow the goals flying in. Manic euphoria at our magnificent goals and desperate confusion at their mad scrappy equalisers - how many last minute equalisers can you have in one game? The game seemed to go on for about a week!

Woke up the next evening to see King Kenny resigning...

Still got this nagging feeling that maybe I imagined the whole thing?

Them window panes were bad news for watching footy.

Looked at that today and it is amazing to think that the majority of their side went on to win the league two 1/2 years later.

We were absolutely streets ahead of them.

The damning site of the Souness years wrecked that team and our aura of invincibility. :(

The Utd game was in 1990...the last time we won the leaque.

And Souey gets an unfair rap, imo. There was more to our decline than just his lack of managerial abilty.

I did say 2 1/2 years later.. Did think it was 3-ish years..

Gotta wonder why all Souey's teams are injury prone and badly coached eh? ;)

s***, sorry I thought you were talking about our side for some reason, not Utd's.

Souey is a s*** manager, I'm not disputing that, and he made huge f*** ups in his time as our manager, but he's not as bad as some try to make out. He inherited an ageing squad, which to his credit, he did try to improve by bringing some talented home grown kids through like Matteo, Robbie and Rednapp. And he came at a time when the clubs soul had been ripped out by Hillsborough. It was a difficult time for everyone, including the fans, and it ultimately led to Kenny's departure.

I'll always remember him as the greatest midfielder and leader we've ever had at the club.

I agree only now are we seeing a heir to his mantle as a player.. He was unbelieveable. A total terminator. I'd loved to see him against Keane or Vinny Jones. He'd have buried them..

Thing is though if McMahon, Rush, Whelan, Molby, Wright, Molby and Barnes not got badly injured for most of his early tenure the young lads wouldn't have mad it in. Binning Beardsley, Hysen, Ablett and Gillespie didn't help either.

His selling of Staunton was mind boggling.

OK, I'll bite.

The 4-4 was actually the first replay at Goodison following a 0-0 at Anfield in the first game. The second replay was also at Goodison which we lost to an early Dave Watson goal. No replays at Anfield!

(The 4-4 was a cracker though. I was in the top tier of the Park End and it was bouncing all night. Can't believe we let them equalise in the last minute twice (normal time and extra time). Apart from a 15 minute spell in the second half we absolutely battered them!

Posted

I was on the Gwladys Street. Always a good buzz being on there, though not for 2 last min equalisers by them.

Was it really 15 years ago.....

I prefer to remember this game as the worst derby I've ever seen,f***ing awful defending,a game we totally threw away, followed by Kenny's resignation and finally losing the 2 nd replay.A nightmare!

Totally agree. For every good thing our forwards did, our defence was totally f'ing woeful. It seemed every time they went forward, they scored.

This was the night the players were slagging each other off at half time was it not? Awful arful awful...and the straw that broke Kenny's back. :(
