No friggin way did 'most of the fanbase' want Hodgson as manager, which you seem to be implying - forgive me if I've misread that. And whilst those 'responsible for checking his suitability' got it badly wrong, anyone who thought Hodgson in any way would be an improvement on Rafa got everything they deserved. In my opinion, obviously.

It may be the least of the issues, but for me it's still a big one. What did Shankly's quote refer to? The holy trinity of players, manager and fans wasn't it? I think - at Liverpool at least - it's difficult if not impossible for the club to be successful without all three being in harmony. There's no chance of that with Hodgson, and consequently there's no chance of him winning consistently. I think something would have needed to happen with his relationship with the fans - probably requiring a massive attitude shift on his part - before it even became possible for us to start winning consistently with him in charge.

Yes. It's not just results that's the problem. He obviously doesn't get what we as fans and as a club are all about. The fact that he could probably increase his popularity ten fold just by not speaking in public anymore says it all for me.

The fans will eventually vote with their feet. It happened at the end under Houllier when we were getting thousands under capacity for some mid week games and it will happen to Hodgson. Maybe not quickly enough for some but he won't be here next season, I'm certain.

I don't think he has rendered it ALL obsolete. He's just raising a flag that Hick's involvement may not be as clear cut or extensive as we'd like to think (for example,Hicks was only one of a number of 'partners' involved in his 'group', and the 'group' didn't even have a controlling interest in Corinthians - if the info on RAWK is correct). Simple message is to proceed with care as far as the Corinthian's link is concerned.

It appears that Hicks involvement with Corinthians has been exaggerated and over-hyped (there's a good thread on RAWK about it). Might be shooting ourselves in the foot by dragging up that connection. Like the idea of the black scarves though - maybe with stars and stripes to accentuate the American connection?

We did actually, back in the day (long long ago). We used to play in blue and white quarters. My dad has an old cutting from the Echo (a response to a letter I think) confirming it.

It's no big deal. In Carra's autobiography he says that Rafa told him when things were going badly at Valencia, one of the more experienced players (probably Ayala!) would deliberately start a fight in the changing rooms so that peple let off steam and got the team spirit going again. Carra thinks maybe Rafa was suggesting he should start a fight with someone. Maybe the boss told Riera to smack Pacheco for choosing the Spanish kids team over our Carling Cup tie!

Not sure it would be that easy for the owners to 'make Rafa sell any player they want'. If they did, Rafa may well be within his rights to quit and claim constructive dismissal - in much the same way that Alan Curbishley did with West Ham. With a good few years left on his contract it could end up costing them an arm and a leg.

I'm sorry, but you're having a laugh. He was crucified mercilessly in Rush's last game at Anfield before he left for Juventus, when he was in Watford's colours - much of the abuse he received was racist. However, he set the place on fire from the moment he arrived at Anfield and was an instant hero - probably helped as has been previously mentioned by the fact the Kop was being repaired so his first few games were 5 star performances away from home. An all time Anfield Great from the moment he first pulled on the red shirt.

Beardsley struggled BIG time from August to December in his first season. Fortunately,as the article says, the team as a whole was playing champagne football and John Barnes in particular - another new signing at the time - was unplayable. Although he scored against Everton in the Anfield derby (around October time I think) he really took off with a top performance against Arsenal at Anfield (round about Christmas / New Year time I believe). Hopefully Robbie can take off starting against Everton tomorow (if he plays!)
