Got a call from the wife's Uncle Simon today in Holland, he and his rather large other half are coming over at easter - he says we have agreed a deal with Feyenoord for Kuyt, and we want it all in place (as much as the rules allow) before the World cup. The fee he says is in the realm of ?12m, and the player very much wants to come. Kromkamp signing has been some help in this he added.

I'll ask him more when he gets here in a few weeks.

alot of hype regarding kuyt, ive seen him a few times and he seems a tough, hard working kinda player.....also he seems to play on the right hand side more often than not for the holland national side..

From what ive seen hes not really a poacher, can anyone else who has seen him play more add their thoughts.....

He certainly is hard working, has good vision and a knack for getting in the right places. A poacher? That's a hard one...he gets 'poacher's' goals, but as many come from shots of 20+ yards. He can certainly generate a goal from nothing and can turn a game. I'm trying to think of someone to compare him with in recent times but it's not easy - he's a bit of an old fashioned player benefitting in a modern game.

Thinking laterally - that cross Gerrard whipped in that Crouch didn't quite get was the sort of thing Kuyt would thrive on. Any ball dropping off Crouch's head around the penalty spot or six yard box he would have. Corners that reach the far post he would put in.

That as near as I can think of typifies the way he gets goals.

Just need to convince Peter Beardsley and we are all set..

speaking of which, whatever happened to him???

I've heard he lives in North Vancouver.

Perhaps we could get him to a supporters' club meeting . . .

If only! Kuyt's difficult to label - a mixture of an in form Peter Withe (all power and bustle) combined with Fowler's ability to make something from nothing and a bit of Shearer's positiveness, early career pace and lack of fear. If you can draw threads from those three you can get some sort of weird mental picture. The goals are just as likely to be bullet headers, rifleshots and tap ins - or in off his bum - you get a bit of everything - and - because the Erdivisie is something like the premiership in blood and thunder terms, he won't have to acclimatise.

Anyways up - as said earlier on, Uncle Simon's over in a few weeks at Easter so I'll hopefully find out more then.
