Kewell couldn't get past a wet tissue...

atm...but at least his mere "presence" on the wing stretches the opposition at the back and gives us more openings through the middle...

Can't wait till he actually goes past someone...I suppose that's Rafa's phase II scheme...

Phase III will be getting the "nasty, little professional fouler" (in words of a Man Yoo supporter watching the game) to cross...

As for Morientes - he worked his dog's off chasing and "harrying"...

Seville won, Barca thrashed Betis and we rile ferguson - what more could you ask for?

Kewell has put in a few quality crosses and has been very good this season. But don't let that get in the way of any agenda. I think it was Kewell crossing for Crouch against West Brom when we won 1-0.

He's deceptive at times. He goes past people with trickery rather than flat out pace. I can't really see him ever being a pacey winger TBH. I think his overall game has changed from the Leeds version. He is more physical, tracks back and seems more of a team player. I don't think many full backs will actually fear his pace rather his deception.

You really do have a thing about Kewell, who has been excellent the last 6 weeks to those of us with an open mind.

I wouldn't go as far to say excellent - excellent if you compare his form now with that of the last year or so - but I do admit he has improved and I'm happy for him, even more so for the club but with the tiny nagging doubt that he can and should be an awful lot better when he's up on the run with the ball against defenders.

'Excellent' would see him actually get past someone ;)

Someone with an open mind would have read between thelines - and noticed that I'm praising him for giving us width.

Perhaps comparing Kewell's attempts to go past defenders with Jesus Navas' actually ripping them apart every time he has the ball would leave me open to being called "shallow and narrow minded" but I didn't actually do that, did I?

kewell's getting a lot smarter with his decision-making as well. timing of the crosses he puts in are improving all the time.

Perhaps all he needed then was a run of games, injury free and a guru with God-like status such as Rafa...

...plus the blind faith of millions on here...

I really hope he continues...

Kewell has been excellent for what, about 2 months or so now. And has regularly gone past defenders, both with pace and trickery. Bit lost on this thread.

The thread states that Kewell has improved, offers the team something more, but could be better - how many times, as stated above did he take the easy option and pass back or pull up on Saturday...

Perhaps this a post-Luis Garcia syndrome? Talented players do not now try to take on players for fear of losing possession and leaving us wide open?

Kewell has definitely been beating people the last while, maybe they have indeed been making the right backs out of wet tissue.

As regards the hard-working other fellow praised in the opening post, maybe they should start making centre backs and goalkeepers out of wet tissue as well, eh?

They already do, - they were in the Camp Nou on Saturday night ;)

I thought the hard working fellow worked hard as did all our team on Saturday.

Annoyed that we couldn't keep possession longer in the second half, but once I saw a close up of Fergie going blue and Quieroz moaning then I knew it was in the bag...

Or as a certain person stood next to me said "Walk in the park!"

But you know he's right when the likes of Neville can outpace him for the ball. It happened enough times on Saturday.

I think Kewell's improved massively with playing regularly and hopefully he'll continue to do so.

He may well have lost some pace but he's made that left-sided slot very much his own.

I went to see Barca on Saturday and some of their moves were stunning. Without ever seeming to shift into top gear they took Betis apart with ease, and Betis weren't as bad as the scoreline might suggest.
