Rafael Benitez has admitted he will soon be sitting down with Florent Sinama-Pongolle to discuss the French striker's Anfield future.

Pongolle was the Reds' FA Cup hero at the weekend as he scored two goals for the first time in a Liverpool shirt after coming on as a second half substitute.

Pongolle has spoken of his desire to carve out a long term career for himself on Merseyside, and Benitez has revealed he will be speaking with his young striker during this month's transfer window to find a solution for the future which will suit both parties.

He said: "We have to come to a decision which is good for him and good for the club. I will be talking to him about the situation, we'll analyse it together and then decide what the best solution is.

"Sometimes with young players it's better if they play regularly, but if we keep winning games and stay in the FA Cup and Champions League then we will play more matches and need more players.

"The important thing from my point of view is that Flo is working really hard. In the week before the Luton game I was very happy with how he was performing in training and I knew he was ready to play. He's a player who can give us different options and he proved that at the weekend."

Not the most reliable of sources but apparently Auxerre are interested in him according to FansFC.com

Auxerre have taken a fancy to Liverpool striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle.

Although the French youngster has stated his intention to stay at Anfield as long as manager Rafael Benitez wants him, it remains to be seen if he has a future on Merseyside.

Auxerre are in the market for a striker after letting Mwaruwari Benjani leave for Portsmouth, and sources in France suggest a move for Sinama-Pongolle is on the cards.

Jacques Santini is reportedly set to make a loan move for the 21-year-old, although this could be made permanent at the end of the season.

BBC have a slightly more positive spin on it: "Sinama-Pongolle backed by Benitez"

More Rafa quotes:

"Flo is working really hard. In the week before the Luton game I was very happy with how he was performing," Benitez told Liverpool's website.

"I knew he was ready to play. He's a player who can give us different options and he proved that at the weekend."
