Since I'm not old enough to remember all the fun you old gits had back in the days. I can proclaim 2005 to be the best year in my 14 year long career as a dedicated Liverpool-fanatic. Although it started with a loss home to the chavs, last year was certainly one for the books.

That amazing Champions League run.

That goal Luis scored which was never over the line according to a special one.

Igor among others revival.

That night in May. Again. Remember all the lads assembled at the Billabong Bar. 8 hours before kick-off. Having a blast. But already through first half. We were all shattered. Only for us to reclaim that infamous trophy that was once ours, and is now ours to keep.

The transfer saga about Gerrard. Remember? For about 24 hours, he was the single most hated person on Merseyside.

The emergence of the great Peter Crouch.

Being blessed enough to see maybe the worlds single most intelligent manager transform the same group of players from mediocre status into stars.

Then on to a blistering winning streak, which still hasn?t been broken.

Yes it had its ups and downs but 2005 was amazing.

Treble winnners or European champions hard call

 

I think in the end I'll take treble winners FOR NOW, I hope the future will make me pick European champions as that will be the moment liverpool started their resurgence and ended up winning the premier league and retaining the european cup. But for now the Treble as despite the fact they were cups they showed the ability to consistently win trophies something we have yet to prove

 

For the record I think the treble season summed up houllier, we were the best Cup team in the world and now we are changing into a league team, they are different beasts IMHO

Best Year ever? Quite probably 77 for me, the league, the game against St Etienne, the low of the FA Cup final, Keegan in his last season and our first European Cup.

 

79,84 and 86 were also good years though.

Istanbul was the defining moment for reds everywhere. we were under dogs, three nil down and getting whipped, from the build up to it after the win against Chelsea, to Taksim square, the banners, the songs, the passion, the YNWA at half time, the greatest YNWA ever, Stevie G, Vladi in his greatest ever game, Xabi's pen, Dudek's heroic last minute save, then the pens, the ONE MILLION people who turned up to welcome the boys back home. the greatest night ever, and something that might never be topped, with all due respect to the treble seaon, it doesnt even come close

I got in a world of trouble with the missus as a result of saying that Istanbul was the definite highlight of 2005,rather than meeting her!

I love her to bits,and will probably marry her,but Istanbul was something else!!!

I'd a bit of a drunken speech to friends and family (3/4's all Reds) on Saturday - New Years Eve night which was also my Birthday and said mostly the same thing.. I just remembered about adding her in at the end..
