Sad news Tony Hately passed away today will be remembered by all Liverpool fans

 

Don't remember him, but he was meant to be a very good centre forward. Mark's dad.

He was in non league then. My dad actually said best header of the ball since Tommy Lawton.

RIP Tony - anyone that Shanks rated is OK by me. He was playing in that era just immediately before I was properly aware of the team so I never saw him play but his was one of those names you just knew about anyway, part of the fabric of the club.

Exactly that. The Andy Carroll of his day, but much better. Probably a mistake in retrospect as people like Allun Evans who replaced him were more mobile but not nearly as good.

Reading that part of the book (Red or Dead) when Shanks is thinking about selling him. He scored 27 goals for us in his first season at the club.
