At times people would say about how its good to have a English / Britsih spine to your team .

I think our squad is very quickly coming round to being majorly based on british players

Wisdom -- Kelly -- Carragher -- Robinson -- Allen --Gerrard -- Henderson -- Shelvey -- Sterling

Add to that

Sturridge , Ince and maybe Butland , also add some of the reserves and it becomes very apparent that our future is very solidly based on homegrown players .

Having listened to BR at redmen show this is whzt i believe he might be looking at come 13/14 season:

Position Starting B-up

1 Reina Jones

2 Glen Kelly, McLoughlin

3 Jose robbo, Flanno

4 Skrts Wisdom, Carra

5 Agger Mirin, Sama

6 Lucas Britton

8 Gerrard Allen, Hendo

10 Isco Shelvey, suso

7 Suarez Assaidi

9 Studgie Borini, Yesil

11 Sterling Ince, Morgan

There are 15-16 British players there.

Flannagan and Morgan are just making up the numbers. Neither have any kind of future with us.

And Isco is never going to sign for us. We're already priced out. His star is too big now.

It's nice to have

Why? Why does it matter where they're from, as long as they're committed to Liverpool. I'd love to have some of those Spanish lads we had here a few years ago back.

I ain't rising to it.

I suppose that it helps knit together a squad long term that is successful and they all feel closer to each other. They must must must be good enough though.

Couldnt care where they are from. Its the quality of the player that matters.

Rising to what? It's a perfectly valid question.

It would be a reasonable question if asked by someone with a genuine interest, rushie was just setting up an opportunity for his usual style of vilification and condemnation, Its Christmas I ain't feeding him any straw today, good will to all men and that.

Valencia must be kicking themselves black and blue

I want good footballers, no matter where they're from. If the English/British option is the best option available to us when signing a player, both in terms of ability, mentality and value, then great. All other considerations are nonsense.

Focussing on British players is counter productive if they aren't as good as players other clubs are buying.

Skills and application first, nationality 4th.

The way things are, it's actively seeking the worst value out there on an overall basis, that's against a belief they will be less likely to fail and there will be some group benefit to having a shared dominant culture.

Ha, yep that's it! Nothing to do with questioning why you think it would preferable to have English players, when most of our best signings in recent years have been foreigners.

I'll take your refusal to answer that it was another unfounded statement based on your little Englander mentality and Tory bigotry then.

Is that some vilification and condemnation. Merry Christmas.

I agree that the nationality of the players is neither here nor there , but the fact that they are good enough .

I think within almost all of the youngsters we have there at the minute we are very well off .

They got the break to play within the squad for whatever reason , but because of how they have responded to that chance they do deserve to be within the squad on merit .
