Stevie H Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 was it just me or was howard webb dying to give that? he's a ref who has spoken publicly about wanting to put his stamp on matches he's in 'charge' of and where many refs would have written that one off as a first minute, big old cup tie maybe given the early status of the match, was he just playing to the cameras? or was it genuinely fair enough?

Don't know if you seen it but Fat Sam was pretty good on ITV, called it spot on, even down to Webbs poor positioning.
Nebraska Red Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) biggest match of the season so far, new manager for Liverpool, live on regular TV, live all over the planet. who wouldn't want to hog the limelight and show the world that his World Cup refereeing was a blip. the man is a showboating c*** and if he does not go back at the replay and apologize, he's also a spineless c***. wonder if the ex ref who does the ref comments will slate him for that decision? the red card was 50/50, but the penalty was a joke. one other thing, did the linesman flag for it from 20 feet away/ Edited January 9, 2011 by Nebraska Red
Stevie H Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 ah, just looked at the match thread. not just me then.

It was never a penalty.Even Fat Sam said so, even Beglin said so, even Tyldesley said so, but I bet Andy Gray does.

Don't know if you seen it but Fat Sam was pretty good on ITV, called it spot on, even down to Webbs poor positioning.no mate, we're on thai tv coverage over here, we have experts less than allardyce. no way webb could have called that definitive from where he was. f***ed the game from minute one.
Earl Hafler Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 was it just me or was howard webb dying to give that? he's a ref who has spoken publicly about wanting to put his stamp on matches he's in 'charge' of and where many refs would have written that one off as a first minute, big old cup tie maybe given the early status of the match, was he just playing to the cameras? or was it genuinely fair enough? It wasn't a pen, the assistant had a better view and didn't flag. Webb is just a s*** ref. I don't think it's bias against us, he's just a s*** ref who, as you say, wants to show how in charge he is. The red card - well Gerrard was asking for that by leaving the ground with both feet. According to Dalglish and others, Webb didn't initially award the freekick and stepped away. Maybe he was trying to play advantage but i can't see how that's possible in a red card incident. Giggs claimed he didn't see it but he was in Webb's face, with Ferdinand, and probably helped swing it.
Cooldude Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Watching live on stream, a buffering stream at that, it was clear nothing was anywhere near Berbatov when he went down. But that's good enough for Agent Webb, it was his cue to do what he does best
floyd Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 All I can say, he wanted to beat Mike Riley for the fastest pen given to those inbreds. Riley was beaten so Webb is a happy man tonight.
Stevie H Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 i've got no problem with gerrard's sending off, that was just stupid. but it's the stage management element of the refereeing, like he was going to make the game about him no matter what happened. webb's done it too often in his career for this to be just paranoia. that penalty decision was dubious at best and he made the game about him from minute one and that's inexcusable.
pipnasty Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Fairground dodgum attendant immigrant c*** Stevie H? A tad unfair methinks
fred milne Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 i've got no problem with gerrard's sending off.I've got no problem with Gerrard's sending off, if that policy is applied consistently. I doubt it will be.
Hassony Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 it's ok guys, it will all even itself up by the end of the season
CarraLegend Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 He's an absolute disgrace, and its not just the last 3 matches against these he's killing us in either, he done it in 2 v Arsenal last season, it needs seriously looking in to, he'd end up jailed if it all come out, i've no doubt at all. Man Utd 2 Liverpool 1 Howard Webb gives Man Utd a penalty for Javier Mascherano commiting a foul outside the area. Man Utd 3 Liverpool 2 Howard Webb fails to send off John O'Shea despite him being the last man when he hauled down Torres. Man Utd 1 Liverpool 0 Howard Webb gives Man Utd a penalty for.....well...for nothing. Arsenal 1 Liverpool 0 Last minute, Fabregas plays basketball from a Gerrard free kick, should have been a penalty / free kick right on the edge, just ignored. Liverpool 1 Arsenal 2 Gallas commits one of the worst fouls of the season as Gerrard bursts into the area, nothing given. Then theres other little bits like Ferdinand battering Torres from behind and he doesnt even get carded, Rafael goes in two footed, we dont get a free kick but Gerrard gets a red card. We need to kick off about it, It's not just the odd decision that goes against us that you have to live with, its pretty much every single time he refs us.

Stevie H Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Stevie H? A tad unfair methinkshe's clearly met me. I've got no problem with Gerrard's sending off, if that policy is applied consistently. I doubt it will be.of course not. but gerrard as a 30 year old and experienced captain who'd seen webb give that penalty should have known that the ref was not in charity mode today. you don't genuinely expect consistency from refs do you fred? it's utopia.
CarraLegend Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 who can forget this title chasing beauty Yep, they were being completely and utterly outclassed that day, 2-0 down, all the momentum with us and who's on hand to help out with one of the worst penalty decisions you'll ever see? Their second goal in that game shouldnt have stood either due to a foul on Modric. Would love if it all come out like it did in Italy.
Sion Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Its more annoying that we don't kick off about it than it actually happening. Even f***ing Everton have done something about it when it was versus them. Ferguson does it for next to nothing decisions.
Swipe Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Someone at the club needs to take the fine and blast Webb in public. It happens all the f***ing time. He is busting to make big decisions against us. The worst kind of cheating from Berbatov. There's waiting for a bit of contact then taking advantage - then there's just plain diving. So frustrating. They really are average.

The press won't but they should at least highlight how many awful decisions he makes in big games now. They won't though. They put him forward as the worlds best ref these days. He's English so they protect this bestowed title. Edited January 9, 2011 by Swipe
