Widnesian Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Its 5 months from now, the club has been bought by an Indian billionaire, spades are in the ground and a new stadium with a capacity for 75,000 fans is being built.Rafa has been given an unlimited transfer budget to overhaul the squad and the new owner has been qouted in the press as saying, "we will do whatever it takes to knock Ferguson off his f***ing perch"Who should Rafa buy?I apologise now for the flippancy of this thread but I'm bored at work and with the January transfer thread closed I thought we could start the summer speculations now, to keep us going. Pepe Zambrotta Nesta Chiellini Lahm Messi Kaka Gerrard Ribery Villa Torres That should just about do it!
Tosh Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 He'd not do that. The spine of our current team would be kept, imo, Pepe, Agger, Masch, Gerrard and Torres.

Nice on paper but I think that defence might struggle in the reality of English football, too slow and Italian. Don't think Rafa needs superstars for his ethos, in terms of what I think he'd do to start given unlimited funds would be keep the spine of the side and just add a couple of player wide. I think we'd look more like: ----------------------Reina--------------------------- Johnson-----Carra-----Agger----------Lahm -------------------Mascherano--------------------- Kuyt----------------Gerrard-----------Ribery----- ----------------------Torres-------------------------- Honestly, I think he'd probably like Ribery because he's a star but a grafter as well (and out of contract) and I think he'd probably know we could do a bit better than Insua. I'd like to think he'd buy a superstar right winger, but I don't know who and I honestly believe that even with an unlimited budget he'd still have Kuyt in his team. Maybe add Villa in there somewhere. No point including Messi as Barca would never sell him and he wouldn't leave. Edited February 10, 2010 by Leo No.8

richwilks Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I can see one major problem with your team The team would be that good we'd only need to field 10 players.
mally Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I can see one major problem with your team Carra? or the fact you've only picked 10 players?

Zambrotta and Nesta used to be great, they are not anymore (in Nesta's case it's down to injury) very weak midfield as well, you need Masch there PepeMaicon Pique Chiellini Lahm Masch Gerrard C RonaldoMessi Villa Torres
Kahnee Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Only problem with a completely new back-line is that it takes time to gel, so keep Carra/Agger in the centre and improve the flanks. If money is no object, you replace Johnson (or move him to the wing) with Alves, and while we're shopping in Barca we can pick up an Abidal for the other side
growler Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I'd go: glojo Carra Agger Lahm/Chiellini Masch Gerrard Kuyt, Aguero, Mata Torres I'd pick up Silva, Kjaer or similar CB cover. I would use Aqua as cover for Gerrard in some games and start Gerrard right instead of Kuyt. I would also like to lower the age of the squad. the greek, , Benni, Aurelio, MAxi, Kuyt, Riera, now Jovenivic(sp?) all aging. The extra money saved by this, I would use to lower ticket prices and upgrade melwood and the academy We can dream....
Kahnee Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I'd also build a 90,000-seater stadium, to increase revenue even further and piss off the Mancs
Widnesian Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Shawcross as realistic and possible longterm replacement of Carra?
