anny road Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Every Thursday night, Sir Roger Hunt drinks in the Horseshoe in Croft....Nr Warrington..Which is my local I am getting an amout of stick tonight which is ridiculous, mainly from Liverpool "fans" "What are you wearing that badge for? Embarrasing" "Rafa is a c***, he wants to f*** off back to Spain, and take his gay lover Lucas with him" "you are the worst type of fan, ultra loyal....Rafa has to go, if you cant see that the god help you" All of the above was said to me tonight So Roger is leaving the pub...now I know him cause i have drank there for 20 years.... "Alright Dave...How are things?" "ok Roger...you ok?" "yeah..Still going the match?" "of course I am" "good man....Just keep the faith and be patient" "i am mate, its these (points to the people who have slagged us, dont forget, Liverpool fans) who are impatient" "Sod them...we have the best man for the job..people forget, the press were after Shanks at times......he is a Liverpool man, Rafa.....It is vital wee keep him" "I agree Roger" Shake hands and leaves
JRC Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 A true gentleman, and one of whom it can genuinely and unequivocally be said that they are, indeed, a Legend. Nice story.

magic melia Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Give me loyal fan over a fickle fan every day
fyds Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Absolutely Melia. Typical of the man, Dave - a true legend, not a five minute one. The Sky armchair generation of fan does my head in.
Red Kent Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Give me loyal fan over a fickle fan every day Doesn't a loyal fan never stop supporting the club ?
anny road Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 the thing is these c**** didnt even know who he is, and if they did, they didnt know just WHAT he had achieved "erm Fowler, Owen, Torres,..even Rush (league goals)....erm...less than HIM..thats HIM...who just walked past...HIM"
anny road Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 Doesn't a loyal fan never stop supporting the club ? there are fickle fans Kev....someone who goes to Anfield suggested it was embarrassing that I wore my pin badge tonight
Red Kent Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) there are fickle fans Kev....someone who goes to Anfield suggested it was embarrassing that I wore my pin badge tonight Just asking the question Dave. People will probably class me as fickle, but I'm as loyal as f*** to the club and will be until the day I stop breathing no matter what. And since Tuesday I've been on two night shifts and wore Liverpool tops last night and tonight. Edited November 27, 2009 by Kev

Murphman Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) I saw Roger Hunt play, I was a teenager but I saw him on quite a few occasions. He was probably 3rd or 4th in the list of great strikers I've seen in a Liverpool shirt, in truth probably not as good as Torres and Rush but on a par with Robbie. Yet he hardly ever gets a mention in dispatches, it's 'cos he old and because he had the great Jimmy Greaves as a contemporary against whom he was always judged, but he was class was Roger, worked his f*cking socks off, big powerful man and an assassin in the box. Us old uns don't forget, he's a proper legend,so's Rafa. Edited November 27, 2009 by Murphman

Us old uns don't forget, he's a proper legend,so's Rafa.I saw him too. Away games at West Ham and QPR in 1968/69 - the first matches I ever went to. He scored a beauty at QPR. With his back to the goal, defender tight to him, he flicked it into the air over his marker, turned, controlled and slotted it in. Never saw the goal again - it wasn't televised so there were no cameras there but I'll never forget it. He was a great player.

Were Roger Hunt to be plying his trade today and had we the good fortune that he would be wearing a Liverpool shirt whilst doing so, Torres would have to be content with playing second fiddle and Rushie wouldn't have got a look in. I bow to no one in my admiration for Torres and Rush but in my own opinion, Hunt was better. And I don't know how many times I'm going to have to ask Dave for an invite to a night out at this pub to meet my all time hero but I think he may be shy in asking me to go.

It's about time some our our ex-players showed a bit of dignity and someone like Sir Roger shows them up to be the short-sighted idiots the current generation of 'media pundits' are. I drive past Croft every morning (I work in Warrington - Birchwood) now.. Any good pubs you can recommend around here for a few pints on the odd Friday?

GWistooshort Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Here's what another great Liverpool striker thinks............. “Benitez has shown that he is the right man to take Liverpool forward,” Torres said. “When the club has needed to be strong it always has been. “Now is the time for everybody to stick together, from the manager right down to lowliest member of staff, because above all else we want to make our wonderful fans happy with our performances and results. “We must be united to finish as high as possible in the Premier League. I am convinced that we will end up in the top four. We also have high hopes for the FA Cup and the Europa League. At this time, this tournament has become a goal for the club.” http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...92534-25264652/ Are you listening Jamie Redknapp?

Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 You're wearing old man's blinkers mate, great as Sir Roger was,,,, Great as Torres undoubtedly is, he's the soup de jour compared to Sir Roger's main course!
Tones Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Its a shame we dont have more ex players coming out in support of the manager. But then its t***s like Whelan, Collymore and Houghton who make the headlines. They give the press what they want to hear.

There's enough former players who've come out in support of Rafa to render these media whores redundant. And why anyone would give any credence to Collie-more, I've no idea.
kop205 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) Its a shame we dont have more ex players coming out in support of the manager. But then its t***s like Whelan, Collymore and Houghton who make the headlines. They give the press what they want to hear. Absolutley. The 'values' that they embody - hyperbole; the constant need to be controversial; the easy soundbyte over any real depth of analysis; dare I even say a touch of xenophobia are sadly much more in vogue than the qualities embodied by someone like Sir Roger - quite dignity; loyalty. It is why someone like Gary Mac will never be an established face on TV whereas a c*** like Ian Wright gets own show. Incidentally, talking of Wright and his self-important 'I say it as it is' persona, he was on one his phone-in shows a few years back and had exactly that as the topic of the discussion ''Why dun more pundeets ay it az it iz like wot I do innit?' to which amate of mine phoned and asked him why he kept on saying 'his Shaun's' move to Chelsea had been a great one when clearly it had been a f***ing s**** decision cos he never played. Cue a torrent of abuse from Wright! Edited November 27, 2009 by kop205
matty Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I had Roger on the phone this morning saying some limping fat bloke had accosted him in the khazi of a pub in the manc part of town. Which was nice.
Murphman Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Great as Torres undoubtedly is, he's the soup de jour compared to Sir Roger's main course! He never scored one as good as Torres Blackburn goal, Son filet mignon to Sir Roger's Coq au vin!
