Martin Skrtel hopes he can take over Sami Hyypia's mantle of goalscoring centre-back in the coming years - even though he has yet to break his Liverpool duck.

The Slovakia international has scored five goals for his country but has yet to find the net in 50 Liverpool appearances.

"I haven't scored but I hope to change this," Skrtel told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"For me the first job is to protect our own goal. Any goals I score is something extra. But I hope next season I can get some goals."

Meanwhile, Skrtel admits he was disappointed at news Hyypia will leave for Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

"For me, I'll miss Sami because he is a big person and a big player," said the No.37. "He has helped me a lot. Whenever I've needed something I could go to Sami and ask him. He'd always help me.

"But now he's finished here after 10 years - like I say he'll be missed.

"He is a very good player. To play here for 10 years is incredible. Before I came here I could see on television how good he was. I already knew he was a really good player with quality. He still is now.

"I wish him all the best at his next club."

There's a lad who talks a lot of sense who Jarg and I drink with after the game occasionally who told us this on Sunday. Meant to post it on here. Good news if he can push on and he was good from corners on Sunday.

In addition, we saw Agger/Skrtel at centre half on Sunday which is also good news. Looked OK as well but Spurs weren't that interested.

The shortest forward line in history isn't the best test of aerial prowess to be fair. It's not a problem though, a morning of pre-season training with big Kev will sort the men from the boys.

We were away from home. That inevitably means giving away goals we shouldn't. We were too deep for that free kick as well.

loadsa sense. it's not you gibo, but i did enjoy the impressions and that big lad drinking the guinness.

Gibo talks a fair bit of sense as well but I am especially looking forward to the big lad doing an evening of Hodgson.

Another defender having a dig at Carra. They clearly all hate him.

There is a schism in the dressing room.

I think hope Agger / Skrtel is the future at centre back, but in the first half they played Defoe onside and Reina saved us, and in the second it was actually Skrtel rather than Carragher that played Keane onside for his goal

His Hodgson is spectacular. He's denying the world

I did enjoy the Wirral girl/Wirral boy impression off immensely though

Jnr Amarni's Chester lad was a bit special as well
