dkra2004 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Was gonna save this for the end of the season but the whole saga still has a stink about it for me. Whilst he scored a great goal v a*** and had a brace past Carson has his failure as a signing cost us as we look to the Mancs to drop points. Missed chances, air shots and missing in games ..... or is it just me. With Torres missing for half the season a 20 mill striker should have been great insurance ?
surf Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 he could go a long way to making up for it by scoring the winner against the mancs
anfieldgaz Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 he could go a long way to making up for it by scoring the winner against the mancs Or score the winner at Anfield...................its written isn't it? even if we cant win the league by then its a nap!!!!
D.Boon Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 £20million better spent could very possibly have meant all the difference points wise.
Maldini Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Selling him wasn't the problem, signing him was. I said last night if we'd signed Arshavin instead of Keanein the summer we'd be 10 points clear.
lawrie Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Absolute rubbish I know (hmm) but he looked like he wasn't really trying when we played against Spurs earlier in the season
dorgie Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 (edited) If we put enough thought & effort into it, perhaps we could blame him for the worldwide recession too.....and maybe even the Iraq war ???? Edited April 22, 2009 by dorgie

I said last night if we'd signed Arshavin instead of Keanein the summer we'd be 10 points clear. It's funny, as I never thought we'd go for Arshavin and I don't think he was what Arsenal needed in Jan, but the more I see of him, the more perfect I think he'd be for us. Wonder why we weren't in for him?
MFletcher Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Is Keane the Irish lad at Spurs? We should definitely look into signing him. He'd offer great cover for Torres and Gerrard and, most importantly, is a proven Premier League player. You can't go wrong with a proven Premier League player - all signings should be proven Premier League players.

Dule Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Maldini is absolutely correct. Arshavin was the player we needed to sign, not Keane. It is however easy to say that, I was not 100% convinved on Keane, but i did beleive he would improve our team. Sadly it did not work out, and more so the failure has cost us the title, these things happen in football. This summer will be our most important in year, and it has to be the right signings otherwise it will be another lost chance like this year.
madaboutlfc Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 keane is probably one of the most pathetic players to grace anfield.. for the price and expectations his results were worse than baros or any other headless chicken we signed under the last manager
Dule Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Ill add to the above, we need a 20m pound striker who is going to challenge Torres and Gerrard partnership, a player that is going to generate DEBATE amongts fans, pundits and everyone f***ing else as to who is our best 2 up front because they are all playing so well. That's something that we don't, and thats why we dont have the title this year.

madaboutlfc Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 i still think our weakness is the wings rather than strikers.. I think Ngog will be more than good enough sub/starter for a few games to rest torres..
dkra2004 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 i still think our weakness is the wings rather than strikers.. I think Ngog will be more than good enough sub/starter for a few games to rest torres.. For me the right flank going forward is as good if not better than any team in the Prem - the left side could be better. Dont think Ngog could be relied on as yet but he didn't cost £20 million so wouldn't expect him to.
GWistooshort Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Read somewhere, can't remember if it was one of the credible papers or one of the internet's "ITKs", who said we made a last minute bid for him in January. There was a story in the Mirror a month ago or so Bizarrely my wife has recently started dealing with someone very closely connected to Arshavin's agent through her totally non-football related work & I asked her to check whether we were in for Arshavin The answer was a categorical no, apparently we never made any inquiry
bobbyboulders Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 keane is probably one of the most pathetic players to grace anfield.. Agreed. Apart from the even number of testicles, he's worse than Hitler. Actually I could be wrong on Keane's nut count. And presuming I'm not too late, I'd also like to join the "why-didn't-we-sign-Arshavin-instead" bandwagon. This opinion is based solely on two good games he played for Russia in the summer and the half dozen goals he scored yesterday. But seriously, he looks just what we needed. Unlike Keane, he'd have complemented what we already do well. What a depressing opportunity cost Keane's signing was. Hopefully this summer will be different.
McBain Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It's remarkable how well we've done really considering how much Rafa f***ed the summers transfers up
John am Rhein Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Arshavin would be scapegoat number 1 by now if we'd signed him. "Too little too late" would be the general consensus after his belated 4-goals against Arsenal in Liverpool's 8-0 win over the Gunners at Anfield.

Jarg Armani Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It's remarkable how well we've done really considering how much Rafa f***ed the summers transfers up hahaha! i like this little morsel but i'm going to swim past... Agree with the initial post, it could hardly have gone worse, he was so much worse than we expected it's almost funny. except that it really isn't, because if we'd got someone good instead we'd probably be top now. fine margins and so on, this season has been preposterous and amazing from the start so who knows really... if we'd been top when we went to OT they might have beaten us and romped home. ho hum.
