for an hour and a half in the cold, payed at the turnstiles ,and had a cup of bovril.

it was almost like being back in the 70's only there was no streams of p1ss running down the steps

sometimes, things were simpler (and a lot cheaper) then ,you got to the match early queued up went in.

but thinking back to how we were treated like cattle and really how dangerous it was ,its better now.

I agree totally.

Those who are nostaligic about the way things were forget about this:

The bitter cold

The damp

The stench of p*ss

The rust and rot

The filthy bogs

The cr*p food and drink

The violence

Build it new and bigger and better. No question.

The bitter cold -- well thats the same it was freezing on wednesday

The damp ---better

The stench of p*ss ---now is definatly better at least your trousers stay dry

The rust and rot ----- much better now

The filthy bogs ---- again much better now

The cr*p food and drink ---- nah its still cr@p just expensive cr@p

The violence ------ much much better

i think the only things that were better was the prices and probably the atmosphere

And the team.

So, apart from:

the team

the prices

the atmosphere

football is much better now.

(By the way, I quite agree with your comment in the other thread about how ridiculous it is that there are people who seem to think that killing the current owners is actually something meriting serious discussion. I've not posted in there cos I don't want to dignfiy them with a direct response, and I've got half the protagonists on Ignore anyway).

the atmosphere will never be as good as it was with a standing kop ,but would anyone really consider going back to it

Was it Keegan that had the "in x number of years they'll realize they're after making a huge mistake and they'll tear down the stands and build safer terraces"? Is that a runner at all?

without a moment's hesitation

im not sure i would ,i look at old films of the standing kop and think s*** did i use to be inside all that .

however if it was possible to have standing in safety id love it but cant see it ever happening

that's true, of course.

I still think that safe terraces could be built.

no 'think' about it - of course they could

the notion has become a kind of intellectual conceptual paraiah, understandably so

it's in there with the legalisation of drugs debate as regards the chances of rational debate - it's become almost taboo
