ManxRed Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Looking forward to SKY showing endless repeats of Sami's goal last night to demonstrate how crap man-to-man marking is from set pieces...
alias75 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Also considering how tired the Arsenal players have looked the last few weeks i wonder if rotation is the way to go?
billz Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Also considering how tired the Arsenal players have looked the last few weeks i wonder if rotation is the way to go? Marking is just plain stupid; 10 men on the line. Has to be a special goal to beat that!
Nerik Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Well said Manx. Free heder for Sami. I am sure Robbie "players score goals not zones" Earle will have a good reason as to why it happened.

Mikey Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) Both systems work well if the players due their duties properly. Senderos was woeful for the corner, if he'd been ours we'd have slated him on here - still a marvelous header though. Edited April 9, 2008 by Mikey

Guest Raisbeck Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Both systems have their flaws, just feels like zonal is always picked on because the media seem to focus on it whenever we concede a goal. We must have one of the best defencive records in Europe over the past 4 years and that is partly to do with zonal marking! Bizarre that it gets such bad press.
Tyler Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Strachan explained the system perfectly last week and explained why it failed for their goal its about holding your nerve he said and not getting drawn out of your zone its downfall is that zonal marking can be vulnerable to a ball to edge of area btw - we were playing a combination of zonal and man marking last nighta few times hyypia and aurelio swapped zones depending on proximity of arsenal players

We aint 4th in the league because of our defence.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Looking forward to SKY showing endless repeats of Sami's goal last night to demonstrate how crap man-to-man marking is from set pieces... Man-marking, is that what you call it Someone should have told Senderos, the lad afforded both Hyypia and Torres the feedom of the area for their goals, god bless him though

Bizarre that it gets such bad press.'Zonal marking' is the work of dirty, under-hand nasty little foriegners though, coming over here with their 'tactics' and strange formations - have they never heard of 'kick and rush' and 'blind panic at the back'?....
Senrab_nhoj Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Strachan explained the system perfectly last week and explained why it failed for their goal its about holding your nerve he said and not getting drawn out of your zoneits downfall is that zonal marking can be vulnerable to a ball to edge of area btw - we were playing a combination of zonal and man marking last nighta few times hyypia and aurelio swapped zones depending on proximity of arsenal players We were lining up four in strict zonal areas along the six yard line for corners with a line of three adjusting to the players around them but maintaining a line 2/3 yards further out... would say it was interesting to watch but I'd be lying
MFletcher Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I think we had a combination of both. We had two out at the corner to prevent the short option, four in a line on the six yard box and the rest tracking runners into the box.
_00_deathscar Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 We actually man marked on corners last night. It wasn't all out man marking though - we were lined up two cohorts of zonal and man.
Guz Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Yesterday was a great example of how following your man and not looking at the ball even once during a corner is a f***ing s***house and crap thing to do. More often than not it leads to a foul on the attacker which is rarely given but thankfully our Sami had too much nouse for Senderos. He (sami) got in some good positions from set pieces in the first leg too.
John am Rhein Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Both systems have their flaws, just feels like zonal is always picked on because the media seem to focus on it whenever we concede a goal. It's the A.L.A.
Cunny Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I think we had a combination of both. We had two out at the corner to prevent the short option, four in a line on the six yard box and the rest tracking runners into the box. yeah, that's a fair comment.Still, a little bit of a compromise from Rafa.
billz Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Sami's would of!!!!! that's why you don't buy useless short-a**e players like fabregas
