carrafan Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Why Does Gerrard..............Always seem to a passanger in nearly all the games v's the 'big four'. Answers on a postcard please. It's a mystery as hes not a big game bottler in europe. Cos for a lot of these years he's been our only attacking outlet and teams make sure they double and triple mark him whenever he's playing. When thats the case, there need to be other players who take up the mantle in an attacking sense but we have not had that for a good while now. Torres this season, though and maybe someone else the next. If we have more than a few players who're a genuine threat, other teams will be forced to concentrate elsewhere and Steven will be a lot freerer. IMO, of course.

Leo No.8 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) Why Does Gerrard..............Always seem to a passanger in nearly all the games v's the 'big four'. Answers on a postcard please. It's a mystery as hes not a big game bottler in europe. Despite special attention from defenders Gerrard has scored some brilliant goals against United (a good few season ago though), Chelsea and Arsenal in the past. The problem is that it is impossible to be brilliant against the top sides every time, and after the games in which he doesn't perform particularly well people like you start moaning and getting on his back. For example Gerrard was outstanding against Chelsea at home this season and scored a brilliant goal against Arsenal; he was one of our better players in the return fixture at Chelsea but hasn't been great against what is far and away the team with the best defensive record in the league Manchester United, but neither has Torres or anyone else for us. Overall not bad, with defining games against Arsenal to come. He wasn't great against United clearly, but it could have been very different because I'll tell you something that has been annoying me ever since the game on Sunday; that volley Gerrard struck when Kuyt laid it offf to him in the first half was f*cking flying in before it took the slightest deflection (off Vidic I think) to divert it over the bar. Another day that goes in the top corner, Gerrard is the hero and the whole game works out differently. We actually played well for the first 15 minutes or so, and sometimes you need things to go right for you to, which obviously from there onwards they didn't at all as United gained more control of the game; when Mascherano went it was game over. One thing we absolutely don't need is people moaning about Gerrard who has been great this season. Bearing this in mind can we change the competition to answers on a postcard to guess your age instead? Judging by your diction, spelling and the general intelligence behind this Gerrard post in calling him a 'bottler' I'd go for six and three quarters... Edited March 28, 2008 by Leo No.8
Rimbeux Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 The whole club has a mental block about Man Utd. Gerrard regularly plays well against Arsenal and Chelsea
psl Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Maybe United don't let him play well. That's hardly fair is it?

Knoxy Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Another myth Players in general struggle against the better teams. They're better, it's harder
muleskinner Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Too easily bullied out of it Do you want him sold?
John am Rhein Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Do you want him sold? How much are you offering?
Cobs Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 it's a shame the internet football forum wasn't about in the 80's, it'd be hilarious to see the d1ckheads railing against Ian Rush for not scoring against Man u.....
Kuyt-fever Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 If allowed to , this thread will turn into another "Strip him of the captaincy now!!!!!!!" by about a page and a half in.
muleskinner Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 How much are you offering? Leaving the figures aside, do you think the team would be better off without him and replaced by, for example, Diego?
fred milne Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Maybe United don't let him play well. That may well have happened other occasions but I didn't think that was the case in the first half on Sunday. He was giving away possession much too easily even when under little pressure and his workrate in closing down the likes of Carrick and Scholes when either dropped deep was disappointing.
John am Rhein Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Leaving the figures aside, do you think the team would be better off without him and replaced by, for example, Diego? Don't really know who Diego is. No I don't think the team would be better off without hi, he's one of the best players we have. However it's better off when he plays right midfield or inside forward and I reckon it would be better off if we had a better captain.
Guest Prongsy Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Leaving the figures aside, do you think the team would be better off without him and replaced by, for example, Diego? No. We won't be selling Gerrard, not unless he wants to leave. It's not even worth talking about. He's one of the best players in the world, a local lad, our Capitan... 'nuff said.

Cobs Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 But he wasn't English ahhhh, that's probably where he was going wrong
John am Rhein Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 ahhhh, that's probably where he was going wrong certainly
muleskinner Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 No. We won't be selling Gerrard, not unless he wants to leave. It's not even worth talking about. He's one of the best players in the world, a local lad, our Capitan... 'nuff said. I don't want him sold at all, I'm as big a fan of his there are. I was asking John, who, it could be said has what appear to be issues with Gerrard that seem to go deeper than him having a poor game against Man Utd.
