floyd the barber Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 hes kinda deceptive....definetly looks the part as a bruiser and lives up to that by showing no fear....YET hes quality on the ball, very composed in possesion and seems very confident in his passing ability...we saw various examples tonight where he looks up and doesnt just hit in hope...he takes his time and has a great variety, also runs with the ball pretty good.....the major example tonight was where he ran 50 yards beating all comers and really should have had a shot instead of passing... him and agger next season could be a formidable partnership.
Bootle Buck Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Joey Jones mark II. loved the commentators take on him "He looks the part skinhead and tatooes". I like the look of the lad, hard as nails but comfortable on the ball.
Nebraska Red Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 It'll be interesting to see if Rafa plays him alongside Agger this season, if Agger ever gets fully match fit that is. He is not afraid to give his fellow defenders a bit of a b******ing either.
fyds Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I was wondering how good his english was - he seems to make himself understood well enough!
BDB Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 him and Agger in the centre of defence will scare the bejeebus out of any forwards.. You've got to think that Agger and Skrtel have the makings of Hyppia/Henchoz MK II....

Zoob Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 He looks proper scary. Wouldn't like to see him when he's angry.
micmij Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 He can also defend a bit! In the first half Cole got a yard or 2 on him, Skrtel recovered and Cole didn't even end up getting a shot away. Actually, I think we won a goal kick when, if Skrtel was more rash, we could've conceded a penalty.
Gomez Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Joey Jones mark II. loved the commentators take on him "He looks the part skinhead and tatooes". I like the look of the lad, hard as nails but comfortable on the ball. He looks like he should be in prison being interviewed by Louis Theroux.
owenthomas Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 yeah i like the look of him too.. he's settled really well..
Hassony Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Very funny when he crashed into Pepe and both wanted to show that they were tougher than the other!
MFletcher Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 He's looking an excellent buy. He's got an absolutely thumping (and accurate tackle), he seems to be comfortable on the ball, quick across the ground, willing to bring the ball out from the back etc. I'm keen to see how a Skrtel/Agger partnership would do. Hopefully we'll see that before the end of the season.
sean Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Agger/Skrtel - defensive partnership for the decade ahead. Excellent, both of them. Mascherano in front, Pepe behind, TRorres up front plus the captain. Building blocks are good.

The commentators on 'Football First' last night finally made a good point about Rafa's transfer policy - rather than the clichéd "he's spent a fortune, wasted most of it and deserves no more money" crap they usually come out with. The likes of Skrtel, Mascherano, Torres, Agger, Lucas, Babel and Reina could lead this team for a decade. Coupled with the increased expenditure on ,and development of, youth players, we have an extremely bright future.

MFletcher Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 One of them did anyway, the other one (Barry Horne) took every opportunity to boot the boot in. What a ****. Yes. Babel is predictable and rubbish. When he did go down the left, he didn't mean to, didn't look comfortable and lost the ball because he's rubbish. He was talking out of his a***.
D.Boon Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Looks an excellent centre half. Deceptively cultured player too considering he looks like he would eat your face given half the chance
McBain Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Good pace, decent on the ball, reads things well. Looks a good long term buy
Elisha_Scott Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I have only heard good things about him. He is meant to be excellent on the ball and is starting to show it on the pitch now, not just the training ground

MFletcher Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I have only heard good things about him. He is meant to be excellent on the ball and is starting to show it on the pitch now, not just the training ground I recall you saying he was "ultra aggressive" as well. I really have been very impressed with him thus far.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I have only heard good things about him. He is meant to be excellent on the ball and is starting to show it on the pitch now, not just the training ground Still not convinced by his aerial ability, but considering his height, that is something you would think he should be able to improve on.
Awrence Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 I have only heard good things about him. He is meant to be excellent on the ball and is starting to show it on the pitch now, not just the training ground I've heard that he likes Fava beans and a nice Chianti...
Woodsyla Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 One of them did anyway, the other one (Barry Horne) took every opportunity to put the boot in. What a ****. I wondered who that f***ing prick was. Thought he had to be an ex-bluenose as even at 3-0 he wasn't giving us any praise and was taking pops at players left right and centre.
