In 2007 he only scored four Premiership goals at Anfield, including a hat-trick against Arsenal. The other was against Bolton on New Years Day.

Which means he is yet to score a Premiership goal this season.

He can't have started many league games, though, JD. In for one, out for seven.

It's the similar use of Babel which is preventing him from improving and resulting in a lack of goals in our attack, in my opinion

I was going to look into this and figure out how many starts etc he had, but the first thing I found was that he scored on New Years day against Bolton last season.

Will come up with the rest in a while.

Was just thinking that, overhead kick wasn't it?

How many home starts has he had this season ?

I'll be stunned if he doesn't leave this month

He has only started against Fulham in the Premiership at Anfield this season :o

Yes it was.

He played 9(7+2) games at home after New Year last season and scored 4 goals.

This season he has played 6(2+4) games and scored 0 goals.

Crouch at Anfield in the league in 2007:

15(9+6) matches - 4 goals.

Four goals in nine starts really isn't bad. I'd be made up if Voronin and Kuyt had similar returns.

He should leave, best for him, best for us and, like Big Stuff, I'll be staggered if he doesn't.

Why is it best for us? It leaves us with just Voronin and Kuyt as out and out partners for Torres. Babel and Kewell aswell but they have other roles to play as well.

He'll only go if we've got someone lined up as a replacement. Not necesarilly like for like but numbers wise. We should still get a fairly decent fee for him in the summer, as will probably Momo and Carson who are our other sellable assets that we don't really need.

I know of a few if you catch my drift ;)

I've been perplexed with Crouch's slide down the pecking order, when you consider who his competition is.

I still don't believe he's quite at the level we need, but he's a damn sight better and more reliable than chancers like Kuyt and Voronin and - as was said above - the thought of PC being sold this month, no top notch replacement being brought in and us being left with DK and AV to supplement Torres is horrifying

Posted
Is it just me who's not perplexed?

He's not fast, whilst he's 6ft 7 and can't head a ball.

Play him and you're limited going forward in terms of how many ways you can play.

Or don't play him and instead choose between two terrible strikers?

I admit he's not at our level, and i won't really care if he gets shipped out and replaced by a better option, but he's better than Kuyt or Voronin and i'm just a bit miffed why his stock has fallen so low with Rafa this season.

I don't think his movement is better than Kuyt and if we intend to play with our widemen + Gerrard with a bit of roaming lisence it's important that the striker off Torres is comfortable with that and is able to move around himself. Dont think Crouch gives us that.

I'm pretty sure he'll play tommorow though.

Kuyt is better than Crouch. Kuyt might not be great, but at least you can be flexible with him.

How do you employ Crouch in a free flowing style of football when Torres is on the pitch as well?

You can't.

We're what 6 or 7 points off the pace, give or take the games in hand. Crouch isn't the best striker by any stretch but f*** me he scores a damn sight more often than the other two. Its been stupid not to play him, exactly the sort of thing people talk about when they say rafa is too stubborn.

He's tall but he can't head the ball very well and he has no pace whatsoever.

I think we should be selling him anyway. His contract situation dictates that he is sold this window or we risk losing him to a foreign club for one year's wages in the summer.

Aye, I think that's why Babel works a lot better as a sub. Introducing a quick player when defenders are getting tired is much better than a tall slow one who is mostly used for trapping long balls from defence and midfield.

It's best for us because we'll have to get somebody in who may not be as good a player as Crouch is in many ways but may well be a better deputy for Torres.

Currently if Torres doesn't play Crouch should but we aren't using Crouch half as well as we did during 05/06 when he does play. We're set up for a Tog.
