He might not have got the headlines yesterday as those obviously went to Torres. However I thought Gerrard gave a real captains performance yesterday.

His work rate was phenomenal and he showed the same hunger to get back and defend as he usually does driving forward.

He was far more disciplined than usual and I thought it was a great sign that he seems to be over his foot injury and getting back to some impressive form.

If he doesn't score or produce moments of brilliance every game people question his hunger and form. However I thought he was an extremely effective cog yesterday in Benitez's machine.

With Gerrard looking good, Torres back, Kewell impressing against Blackburn and Alonso / Agger to return I think we should feel very optimistic of our chances in the league but also qualifying from our Champions League group.

I also thought SG was great yesterday, i gave him mom as far as im concerened.

What impressed me was his work rate it was superb, havent seen that much hunger

from him for a while.

He's been great since the derby. It is hard to tell if that is a result of rafa bringing on Lucas because he was really good in that game as well.

I think the main reason is he looks like he's fully recovered from his foot injury. Before that, against Villa and Chelsea he was certainly on top form.

do you think we should move Gerrard to the right or play him in the center ?
Depends on Yossi's form I think. I'd still like to see Stevie on the right and a Mascherano/Xabi combo for tough away games and games like the Mancs at home coming up

well for me

---------Alonso ----Mash

Gerrard---------------------Kewell

-----------Benayoun/Babel

---------------Torres

is our best team, Im forming the opinion Gerrard is best on the right for Liverpool and in the center for England ( not that they matter)

back to his driving best lately. gives teams so many problems and so much to think about. they don't know who to allocate to pick him up when he's on form.

I think the key is when Gerrards on form playing well it doesnt really matter where he plays (within reason) i think its obvious we're a stronger side with Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano in the team and theres no reason why stevie cant be as influential if not more influential starting from the right with license to roam, in fact you could argue he'll be more of a goal threat from the right with Alonso and Mascherano doing most of the covering.

So after everyone wanting Gerrard in the centre last season, now everyone wants him on the right.

Maybe next season everyone will want him playing just behind Torres.

The rotation of opinions is occuring.

How can anyone pin-point Gerrard's best position. The lad covers every blade of grass and in the past few weeks his passion and hunger has been 150%. He was still tackling in the 92nd minute like a mad man.

Gerrard is an out and out attacking midfielder these days, which means playing in the middle against strong teams can leave us exposed at the back

I'm thinking against strong teams Gerrard should play on the right where he can still attack (there's a RB behind him) and we're less exposed through the middle

I think that would solve a lot of problems if true, but it's not. I think the manager would kill for it to be true. Still an allrounder, playing as one, desiring to be one, dont think he has the goal return or the guile to be a specialist.

Onanother tack, was Kewell on the bench against Fulham?
