We should have a tournament at Anfield

Couldn't help thinking that we should have a pre-season tournament at Anfield. It's all well and good travelling all over the world for matches, but after watching the Emirates Cup over the weekend I couldn't help but think that a tournament at home is far better than one away.

I agree. We could call it ...no wait ... 'The Anfield Cup' .....catchy, no ?

There is going to be one next year and it'll be sponsored by the Speke Ford dealer.

It's called The People's Cup.

You won't sell any more shirts unless you 'court' the emerging markets.

Agreed. I think we should just be done with it and build the new stadium in China. A 200,000 all seater. We'd easily fill it. There's f*cking millions of 'em.

Not only that, we'd be nailed on for a perfect home record because everyone who plays us will be jet lagged. Meanwhile, with the size of our squad we can maintain a dedicated "away team" which stays in England.

In all seriousness, assuming that the new stadium gets the go ahead, then some kind of pre-season tournament prior to the last season at the current ground would be a nice touch.

Am I correct in saying that AC Milan and Real Madrid have never played at Anfield? The only games I can recall against them are finals. Maybe get them over for a tournament, as it seems right that they should play at Anfield before it goes (assuming we don't draw either or both of them in Europe in the next couple of years). Throw Bayern or Ajax in as well possibly. I know that appearnce fees may be prohibitive, but worth considering surely?

Having been to see the Emirates cup yesterday, I can only say, please never let our fans turn into something similar to Arsenal's woeful bunch of twonks.

Some bint behind me was getting extremely over-excited and when the Arsenal fans sang 'Stand up if you hate Tottenham' she was giggling manically. Her son asked what they were singing and she said 'Stand up if you hate...I can't make the last word out.' So why are you laughing you silly cow?

And as for doing a mexican wave while their own team were playing...

We should wait until we've got the new stadium, and then hold one

We could call it The Stanley Cup...

I think you'll find that name taken already.

forget tournaments at Anfield, all pre season games should be played in the USA. at least I would be able to watch them at resonable times of the day.

I think you'll find he knew that already :cooler:

(And in any case, the Stanley that the Ice Hockey trophy is named after is from the same family of Stanley's as the one the park is namned after, isn't he?)

Would there be a Wing Hing in the Kop?

I did.

He lives in Nebraska. He's a bit slow. (No one's quite sure how connected those two facts are...)

Well being in Nebraska and using ethanol for power, if his wife has cut those corn stalks down in the back garden, that probably is making him slower. Lack of power and all that.. :P

Agreed. That seemed like a really well run tournament. Good competition too.

It would be fine to do it every year. The team could still go abroad to boost shirt sales too.

As a few people have mention, that big club tourney might be expensive to pull off.

How about a Merseyside championship tournament?

With the likes of LFC, EFC, TRFC, Marine, Southport etc.
