GABRIEL HEINZE will take his battle to join Liverpool from Manchester United to court.

 

Sir Alex Ferguson stated yesterday there was no way he would sell the 29-year-old to Liverpool.

 

However, United will have no choice if Heinze has a get-out clause, and now the defender is preparing to begin legal proceedings demanding his sale.

 

It’s been widely publicised in recent days Heinze has a letter signed by United chief executive David Gill allowing him to join any club which bids £6m – a valuation Liverpool are prepared to meet.

 

Despite their protests, it’s understood United did not have the foresight to add the phrase ‘except for Liverpool’ in this document.

 

Heinze’s representatives are confident of a swift court hearing forcing United to accept a £6m offer made by all interested clubs, including Liverpool.

 

The Anfield club made a formal bid for the defender which was rejected, but will now take a back seat and watch developments closely over the next few weeks.

 

Manager Rafa Benitez will want a new left back in his squad before the start of the season.

 

The capture of Heinze would represent a major coup for Benitez and, given Ferguson’s opposition to the move, would also inflict psychological torment on the United boss.

 

What’s clear is no matter how much Ferguson claims it won’t happen, the final decision is out of his hands.

 

l Robbie Fowler has turned down Sydney FC, whose chief executive George Perry said: “We’re bitterly disappointed but we respect his decision.”

 

I'm a little worried that if this goes through Ferguson will do everything he can to get back at us. Which player of ours only has another season to go on his 'deal' and has dodgy ownerships issues as it is? And who's mate is expected to be a Manc in time for next season?

 

Just hope this deal doesn't break the 'taboo'.

i was just going to post the same thing!

 

i'm really in two minds about the transfer - a few years ago he looked fkin ace but since he's come back from injury he's looked a liability.. this of course could be down to not playing for an age and just getting back into his swing which is what's swaying my mind.. regardless though, if he goes to court to come here from there i'll fkin luv him like a bitch!

They can live next door to each though, Jimmy, on the mates front. If Mascherano is unhappy with his football or his renumeration that's another matter and if he is and the manager isn't prepared to make the assurances or sign the cheques and he ends up there then so be it.

Should always be different with homegrown - if we signed Scholes, I'd almost be disappointed in him.

Nah don't buy that the home grown players should be any different, should have a different status. Once a red you should always be a red. Doesn't matter where you're from, once your indoctrinated that should be the end of it!

not sure how it is in argentina, but in brazil it's quite common for players to move between rivals. romario, for example, has played for most of the major clubs in rio.

 

like rafa, a lot of the managers, move players on very quickly too. there's much more of a merry-go-round.

Agreed on the personality aspect. I just like that it's a taboo.

 

Fowler has admitted he came relatively close to joining the Mancs when he was at his pomp and you don't come much more red than him. If there had been a culture where players had switched between the two clubs regularly I think that may have made that decision easier for him. Not something I'm in favour of.
