Liverpool's record at recouping money from sales is total bobbins. I don't know whether it's the niaivety of our negotiators or the fact they still believe we have the funds to bear it but our record is pretty ugly. For example: Diouf £10m - undisclosed; Cisse £14m? - another probable undisclosed; Luis Garcia - rated at £4m, WTF!

Garcia's game has come on immensely since he arrived and he is now strong enough for the Prem and subtle enough for the European stage. He has forced his way into the Spain squad; is a champions league/FA Cup winner; and chips in around 10 goals a season. That valuation is absurd.

Irrespective of your personal opinion of Garcia's flaws and qualities, if players of the calibre of Joey Barton are moving for more than £5m and Scott Parker at 7, plus a half decent left-back Bale costing £5m plus add ons, it makes the clubs lack of business sense even more bitter to taste.

The fact that there were numerous poor transfers from the previous management team means nothing; Man Utd don't seem to suffer in the same way. They recoup fees on the most ordinary journey men imaginable.

I don't profess to know what will happen with the likes of Diao, Le Tallec though I suspect it won't involve us getting cash through the door, and where the fick is Cheyrou - he just wandered off like Capt Oates never to be seen again.

I think the club needs to be less 'correct' and rather than stumping up bumper fees, utilise the desire of the player to come to the club. Madrid, Barca and, to an extent, Chelsea are very good at it.

Here's hoping G&H's money is better spent than Mr Moores'.

Jesus, how often will it be posted that he is in the last year of contract and, as far as we're aware, wants a move back/won't sign a new contract.

Absurd thread.

Garcia is a bad example, it's clearly part of oiling the Torres deal, and not an open market thing

But there is a key in the nationality. British players cost more because we are stupid

Too true.

Silly thread

Only a valid point if the purpose of buying a player is to make a profit on him. As I dont believe we are largely in that type of game what a players resale value is is hardly relevant

Hmmmm.... Two broken legs in two and a half years? - Tell you what...I'll give you £20m for him.

One year left on contract, Achilles injury since January - Tell you what...I'll give you £20m for him.

Eh? Right. THAT happens.

man united lost more on veron than we've ever spent on a player.

And Chelsea have just released him on a free transfer. So they've both lost around £14 million on him.

I'm f***ing delighted we don't make big money backl on our transfers as that would make us a selling club which players use as a stepping stome. Would you rather Alonso went to Barca for £12m and we could happily sit here with our £2m profit? I know I wouldn't.

We sell below what we buy for because we've got the best years out of a player. In Cisses case he has suffered to massive injuries so we are punting him.

Long may we loose money on these deals.

Should have closed the thread after SteveH's post.

We are a buying club, not a selling club. If we sell a player its because he's bobbins and we don't want him, not because a bigger club is desperate for our players and will pay more than we did for him. We don't need to do those deals, we can hang onto the good ones.

Silly silly thread.

Unbelievable.

I don't agree with a word in the original post, but the lack of respect shown to the poster beggars belief. The guy is just expressing an opinion FFS.

and it was his first post. What a welcoming bunch we are today

I find that staggering. I thought they'd got rid ages ago...

Jarasik

I still think there was something suss about that deal - bought from a Russian club in the January window, in a position that didn't need strengthening, went out on loan that summer and never played for Chelsea again.

And he wasn't the only one. The same thing happened either the January before or January after Jarasik (forget the guy's name), and in that case I'm pretty sure he went straight out on loan never to return
