Ombudsam Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 if we really are chasing these two wingers. it doesn't make any sense. Ireally don't get it. I think Sissoko is tops but would have shifted him as I can't see how he and Levia will get enough game time to develop. If we play with 3 cms then we have to rejig our front line as we'll have too many forwards. Don't see kuyt as a decent lone front man anyhow On another note Rafa did say big and now an age back, it was him. I know he's said he's happy since but he must have got a b0ll0cking from the owners in that meeting, well i figure he might anyway. Personally I think if fans are tetchy over our signings, it is directly from Rafa as he genuinely started it. You can't airbrush what he said out of history by sticking your fingers in our ears and singing YNWA over anyone who asks what's happening
anny road Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 no doubting Rafa said what he did and you cant doubt that out of the blue contracts were tied up for Alonso this is now getting stupid Sorry I dont mean to have a go at you but people need to calm down, its every day now
growler Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 eh? We have Gerrard, ALonso, Sissoko and Masch for next season. Lucas can be brought in gradually, and if he is better than the other four, one will drop out. I don't see the problem.
Magic8Ball Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 CM's is not the issue - more important is how are we going to break down defenses and score goals when that's sorted the CM will take shape - let's wait and see what attackers we have for next season
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 (edited) Probably shouldn't complain but I can understand your viewpoint, 5 into 2 over a season doesn't seem feasible but I'm sure there'll be more rotation and Gerrard will be allocated the right and a more advanced position for a fair proportion of games. Does Lucas have a history of playing any other position? Edited June 10, 2007 by Florist Cinema Pond Goal
Stevie H Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 chelsea and the mancs manage to fit four or five into two throughout a season. chelsea about six in fact. if we're going to compete in the league and in europe we're going to need a massive squad, 23 or so top quality players.

Chelsea started with 4 CMs on the pitch for a lot of season, can't see us playing more than 3. Who are United's 4 or 5? Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher and O'Shea - there's a hierachy there, Fletcher and O'Shea will expect to play less than the others whilst both can also fill in at other positions. Sissoko, Alonso, Gerrard and Masch will all expect to start the majority of games. Unless we get big injuries, there will be 1 or 2 unhappy CMs come next June.

R A Softlad Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I suggest we write a song about them. There's Xabi Alonso, Momo Sissoko, Gerrard and Mascherano-o-o!

Not if they all play the same position Chelsea just start all of theirs and the back up manc midfielders are clearly back up. Momo and Lucas need to play. The other three are better than them though. Better problem to have than having too few. still though
bazz Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Before people post things like the orginal post - can they please think first. What about injuries, suspensions and the fact we will be involved in 4 competitions......think first eh?
Keita Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Before people post things like the orginal post - can they please think first. What about injuries, suspensions and the fact we will be involved in 4 competitions......think first eh? so Sissoko is quiet happy to play a bit part like Zenden has this year?
surf Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 if it's gerrard on the right and three in the middle, then that leaves one on the bench. which means all five of them could play each game. and that's not taking into account injuries

surf Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 it would certainly require a striker that can play up front on his own, a left winger that's a goal threat and either Xabi or Lucas to play higher up the pitch. still an option for away games though
Maldini Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Gerrard will play a lot on the right and we'll play with 3 or 5 in midfield a bit more this season too probably.
Ombudsam Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 Gerrard will play a lot on the right and we'll play with 3 or 5 in midfield a bit more this season too probably. I agree Gerrard will play on the right more. I just hope that we don't sign another RM in that case
R A Softlad Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 lucas being treated like a dog already aye? I could fit him in... There's Xabi Alonso, Lucas, Sissoko, Gerrard and Mascherano-o-o...
Maldini Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I agree Gerrard will play on the right more. I just hope that we don't sign another RM in that case I'm beginning to think we won't. From what Macia said the other day (if true) Rafa believe Pennant has proved himself, we also have Garcia coming back and maybe Hammill can fill in there from time to time.

bazz Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 you're thick A well thought out response there So last year we never had one of our midfielders suspended, injured or rested due to being involved in 4 competitions then? ....no of course not. Sure I must be as thick as Rafa in thinking we need a strong squad of players in order to compete on all fronts.
Knox_Harrington Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 think that's it. if we get malouda in then i can't see us buying another right mid.But maybe Alves to be another option at right back (and right mid) to overlap his face off when Gerrard plays there. Tonight, while having a pint with Jarg Armani, I convinced myself that Gerrard should start left next season.
Jarg Armani Posted June 12, 2007 Posted June 12, 2007 It sounded reasonable enough too. But there's absolutely no chance it'll happen.also i'm not sure we'll be playing alves at right back if we get him. So we should sign that Navas instead, looks a player imo.
