I've been one of his biggest critics, but he played his best ever game defensively last night - added a whole new dimension to his game. If he can repeat that kind of defensive ability he'll force me to admit I'm wrong about him.

Well played Ginge. :applause:

Not just last night but he's improved a lot defensively over the last few weeks. Maybe the extra competition in the squad has forced him to get his act together.

I thought we'd suffer without Aurelio for these big games but Riise was back to his best.

I was definitely one of his harshest critics throughout the season but since the Barca game he has been superb. His fitness levels are really incredible and his concentration last night was spot on.. He made one mistake which Stevie went mad at him for but he got back to position and defended straight away.. Rafa would have been really happy with him last night..

ffs

i think people should go check our defensive performances for the past two seasons - something Riise's been a part of

the slagging he's taken on here and the 'coward' rubbish were shameful

That bankrupt b*****d was my MOM.

what - not

Jermaine 'he's not good enough and he hasn't got the bottle to become good enough' Pennant ?

Got to admit that he played a blinder, far better defensively than I've seen him for a long time - if ever.

If he could repeat that level of performance and concentration, and Aurelio can return to his impression of full fitness then the LB position is no longer a priority.

This is so spot on.

However, I don't blame Thatcher.

In our best season, Stevie Warnock played in as many shut outs as JAR; maybe we should have kept him ? It was about the team covering for defensive frailties.

I dont want this to turn into a debate about his shortcomings; lets just applaud Ginge for his performance last night.

Warnock 9 shut outs (?)
