I assume this has been mentioed before as loads were talking to him but, went to Derby Square to meet up with all the other reds and as I was about to cross the road, my mate Ray said ?Jesus, there?s Tom Hicks!? He was standing on the other side of the road just watching all the Liverpool fans with their flags singing and drinking. I walked over to him, shook his hand and go my picture taken with him, which my mate didn?t f***ing save properly!!! Anyway, he asked me?So, are you confident for tonight?? I told him I was convinced we would hammer them, he replies ?Really?? and I said ?Actually no, I?m an eternal pessimist and I think we?ll get knocked out? He said not a chance and something like, This great team is back on top for good, I can?t remember his exact words. But I shook his hand again and then more and more people came up to him and he stayed and talked to them all while smiling at the fans in the Square. Which was nice.

Would like to hear what the new owners made of last night. They must have been blown away by that atmosphere. Really wish I could have been there.

I do think they have very quickly developed a genuine and not purely business based affinity for the club.

Congratulations to whoever forged together these two entirely different threads!:D

...and for being quick enough to sort it out!

'so let me get this right, we go to the CL final every second year and Chelsea never go?'

It's only fair, really. So Jose - how's this quadruple thingy going? :D

Was on Sky Sports news this morning that George got covered in Champagne in the dressing room last night. Mr Hicks does look like a big lad, so looks like they took the easy option.

I think last night meant that we will definately mount a title challenge and perhaps win the league within the next 2 years

The Americans are in love with the Kop and will definately build an enhanced Kop in the new stadium - after last night I cant see them denying Rafa

the money he wants to buy players, so

Summer 2007 is going to be Rafa's equivalent to Summer 2002 for Houllier, however this time I believe the manager will get it right

I'm looking forward to the new attacking talent that's going to arrive, that combined with the emergence of Pennant and Anderson means the future is BRIGHT

fully agree with that.

this summer is going to be massive for us and rafa. I would say number 19 is coming in the next 3 seasons.

One of my first thoughts last night was, after experiencing that unbelievable atmosphere, Rafa will get an open checkbook.

And after two CL finals in three years, the best manager in the world, the best league in the world and a great squad we are a very attractive destination for some of the worlds bets players.

Why's that Mike? They had Tom H on the box this morning basically saying although he won't be drawn into putting numbers on a particular sum, Rafa will be eating at the top table in the transfer market, also that Reina Gerrard, Alonso and Carra will be resigned to new contracts sharpish.

Why? Are we resigning the 3 protagonist of that mad summer

you can't look into last night and get a title challenge from it. i think that would have happened in any event.

even before last night we are miles ahead of were Houllier was in the summer of 2002.

There was a nice little piece in the Irish Times this morning about our new owners.. Gilllet had to be dragged into his position before the game by his security cause he wouldn't stop hanging over the edge of the directors box talking to fans. Then five minutes later legged it from the dignitaries and was at it again.. They finished the piece saying that he was singing with scarf over his head and he genuinely 'gets' what this club is all about. Good little Article

would be good to get a link of that article

I half expected them to come on the pitch at the end

I heard they were in Derby Sq but didn't see them unfortunatly

This was up on the offal last night. Evety time I hear anything from this guy I fall more in love with him; if he had t*** and could cook I'd marry him.

GILLETT: I'D LOVE TO BE IN KOP TONIGHT

George Gillett will take his seat in the Director's Box tonight wishing he could enjoy Liverpool's bid to reach the Champions League final with the fans on the Kop.

The Reds' co-chairman admits he'd love to be in the stands as the Reds try to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit but whatever the outcome this evening, he says he's already learning about the special qualities of Kopites and is promising to join them for a match next season.

"I wish I'd been sitting on the Kop the night we played Barcelona," said Gillett. "They have so much fun and anticipate and affect the outcome, which is really unusual. I'm a huge Kop fan.

"I will be there on the Kop one day with my son. I tried to talk some people into letting me be there tonight, but I've been told it's not a good idea. But I'll definitely be there next season.

"We're increasingly appreciative of the nature of the fans. It's all about the fans for us. The depth of their knowledge and passion is great. They love their team and it's wonderful to see. We've travelled a great deal and in Eindhoven we met many people from all over Europe, many without tickets who were determined to see their team. It was a real eye-opener.

"It's amazing but it really does feel every match we've seen has been a cup final. The expectations of Liverpool are dawning on us slowly. I don't think we had any appreciation before we got here.

"We'd been huge fans of the sport but didn't really understand Liverpool. Each game and each day we learn more, but it will take us years.
