two excellent jobs by keane and bruce there.

keane must think this managerial malarkey is a f***ing doddle...though next year will be an eye opener.

still for doing that having spent just over a million pound is some f***ing achievement.

Hope they keep their teams up...along with hughes and coppell.

Was hoping they slided down, since that c*** Niall Quinn took over..

Be surprised if either of them stayed up, Bruce has already proven he doesn't have what it takes at the top level.

I find all the hype about Keane amusing though, next man u manager apparently! I f**king hope so.

I bloody despise Keane, but anyone who thinks he isn't going to become a very good manager is off their rocker. He 'managed' ManUre on the field for ages, and unfortunately he had a pretty good role-model in Drunken...they even have similar styles/personalities.

I hate him, but he'll be very good.

Happy for Sunderland, didn't want that c**k Bruce up though.

Happy for Sunderland? HAPPY FOR SUNDERLAND???

MR FECKIN' I'M GOING TO RUIN SOMEONE'S CAREER CAUSE I'M PISSED OFF IS FECKIN SUNDERLAND BOSS

MR MANCHESTER UNITED

How any Liverpool fan can be happy for Sunderland is beyond me.

Relegation to the Conference is too good for them.

I'd love them to both go straight back down.

Keane took over one of the best sqauds in the Championship, they were bottom, had alot of money and a massive fanbase. He would have to be an absolutely s**** manager (like Quinn!) to not move them up the table.

Next year will be his real test - I hope he fails miserably.

You need to be sensible about it. He spent about 1m net and moved them from 24th to 2nd and automatic promotion. If money got you promotion Wolves would have been up years ago.

Roy Keane is arrogant, he's dirty, he's self-obsessed, he's a Manc. He's also a winner and he's had two fantastic mentors. Roy Keane will be an excellent manager, it's just how he is.

apart from the word 'manc' you could have been talking about Graeme Souness

think you need more evidence than 1yr in the Championship to be that emphatic

I think he'll do well, up to a point that is. He'll send out sides who will not be rolled, they'll be organised and committed, but when it comes to taking the next step I'm not sure the boy Roy will have the tactical nouse.

tactics is one element

spending a war chest of money is another

as is handling the egos of multi-millionaire players

This will be a huge issue for him. He won't suffer them, no matter who they are, or how good they think they are.

the skill is in getting the best out of them, suffering them to a point

e.g. Cantona and himself

be interesting to see how he copes when his star player tells him to stick it up his bolllocks

Him and Cantona are the types who have problems with managers because they are committed and focused. Its not those types he'll have a problem with. Its the Ferdinands of this game he won't suffer. The guys who aren't focused and who believe the hype. Seems like there are more paycheck players than club men these days.

we'll see if/when the biG NAmez at his club start speaking out undermining him, or when he has to deal with more tempramental characters

Or maybe I just remember the lauding of bryan robson as manager after he turned a crap club into a mediocre club and spent a lot of money in the process.

When it comes down to it, Keane is thick. He's shown that on the pitch numerous times, and you can't be thick and manage a top club anymore. He can't control his temper, he actively attemtped to end a fellow professionals career over a minor spat (and then told the world about it in order to sell a book!), he undermined Irelands world cup campaign because of his own ego. He hasn't shown he has what is required to succeed at the top level as a manager. Shouting at players is one thing, When things go wrong all you can do is shout louder and you end up with Souness (and Souness was a lot cleverer than keane, on and off the pitch)

Managing the big clubs has moved on. Rafa, Houllier, Mourinho, Wenger are a different league than the old career path for ex-players. The analysis of the game, the tactics the training methods, these are very intelligent people. The Championship and the lower echelons of the premiership are still in the 80's, so of course he'll do OK there, he's not competing against these people. The championship is not a very strong league anyway, there is little difference between mid table premiership and lower championship, a few million here and there, a few good loan players really can make the difference.

Roy Keane might do OK next year, they might do a Wigan/Reading or they might do a Watford, but, under keane, they'll go down sooner rather than later, just like Wigan and Reading will. But he will not be a 'very good manager' and, outside my dreams, he will not manage man u. Their next manager will be a top european coach.
