This may completely cut out an awful lot of posters. Sorry about that. But...

I remember it just being totally magical. It was my first real memory of colour TV and the first time I can remember seeing colour tele.

The weird delay in the commentary was awesome. The only thing similar was the Apollo misssions.

The football was incredible. Pele was unbelievable. Gerson ran the show. Tostao was amazing. jairzinho kept knocking in the goals. Carlos Alberto led them amazingly.

Not to mention the trauma of England losing to West Germany like they did and Muller being awesome.

Maybe the greatest football ever.

The loss of the pound note was a shame, although it did mean that the amount of cash sent in birthday cards went up. Which was nice

Not being alive won't help but Everton being champions would of been nice.

born in 59, i seem to remember lots of bits of the games.

we watched some of the games at my uncles house as he had color TV, we poor folks still had black and white.

one recollection is the terrible droning background noise during every game.

Brazil and Italy were a cut above the rest.

Same deal for us. We actually rented a color tele for the tournament and then had to give it back after it was over. It was facinating to look at. I remember England losing to the Germans on the Sunday night. It began my love/hate relationship with the England team.

That Brazilian team was just cool to look at though. It was football like nobody had seen before.

I remember coming back from a holiday at Butlins listening to the England v Brazil game and the amazing Banks save. I remember we stopped and got petrol and they were giving out World Cup coins at Esso. I got Bobby Moore and kept it for ages.

That was a great set of coins.

I loved the set of photos you could get of all of the teams in the world cup too. I think they were 5p a packet.

I've did that with my daughters - gave them all my pesetas thinking that they couldn't change them anymore.

Get back home one afternoon and the two of them are reading through a pile of new books in the lounge.

"Where did you get all those books from?" I stupidly asked.

"Mama took us to a bank that changed your pesetas" they replied.

Lesson to be learned - hang on to all your old coins.

I had the full set and some b*stard stole my Bobby Moore. I battered him when I found out it was him.
