as our last free signing from Bayer Leverkusen, what more could we want?

Only to us is Erik Meijer known as Mad Erik. Everywhere else he is The Butcher after his father's occupation.

The mad one made his final pre-retirement match for Alemannia Aachen in May last year but he and Willi Landgraf, another "legend" played in a special match at Aachen in October to say their farewell. The match was brought to its emotional end by the fathers of Landgraf and Meijer calling their sons off the field to come home.

Mad Erik is now "Co-trainer" at Alemannia, currently lying 9th in the Bundesliga.

Did they record a country and western song too?

I'm struggling to think what a player half as good as Mad Erik would actually be able to do.

He could run around at a modest pace, flail one arm, and only bump into other players occasionally.

That said, if "Essence of Erik" could be bottled and few spoonfuls forced down Heskey's throat before matches, we could have had a player.

Just scored for Leverkusen against Lens, haven't seen the goal.

Good goal. Controlled a bouncing pass with his chest on the edge of the

box and volleyed right footed inside the keeper's left-hand post.

I'm still sceptical, though....

And Leverkusen still play You'll never walk alone" at the end of their games

Still bedding in.

The club have stated that his 'real' first season will be the next one.

He is extremely fast and he's learning about how defenders work here in la liga. He's impressed me in nearly every game he has played.

Next year he is going to be awesome.
