It´s a bit of a disgrace really, hope UEFA sort them out properly with the stadium incident.

There really should be some sort of "wasting UEFA´s precious time" ban that could be used against the frogeating frenchies

I have some sympaphy for Lille, though I'm trying not to be to pro-Lille just because this is against scum.

I think there should be some recourse for clubs when there is clearly an incompetant refereeing decision. Walking off the pitch when there are thousands of fans who've paid to travel and watch is clearly wrong, but as mistakes never get corrected after the event it does look like it will be leaving clubs with no option.

The standard of refereeing is appalling and I do struggle to believe the game is as clean as UEFA and our FA say it is when you see some decisions given that stretches credibility just to blame on incompetance. But that is a different issue.

All the governing bodies ridiculously claim infallibility, no mistakes are ever made because if they were, they would have to face rectifying them. The referee's decision is final, and if that it is proven to be incorrect, tough. I am not sure in a game where tens millions of pounds rests on that decision, like it will here, that away goal pretty much means Lille will not progress to the next round, that is acceptable any more. Nor the "even's itself out over a season" kop out claim. Neither path looks enticing to me, but I suppose video replays and stricter monitoring of refereeing competance could prevent a lot of the bad decisions at the source.

I've still not seen the incident, but from what I hear it not necessarily the best example of the above, it doesn't actually sound like an incorrect decision unless the ref made no indication the free kick could be taken. But the recourse for poor decisions needs to be taken more seriously.

But it wasnt an incompetent referee decision, it was a perfectly legit goal.

Lille are claiming the referee made it perfectly clear before each free kick that it wasn't to be taken before the whistle. The free kick you scored from there was no whistle, so they're claiming inconsistency. I think they even claimed the referee "suggested" the kick to be taken quickly, which is quite an odd remark.

I felt bad for Lille after the game, cause it sounded like their goal was unfairly not given and your goal was unfairly given. Might be some truth to either incident, but these things happen in football. However, Lille have been acting like little children, like feckin drama queens. It's hard to have sympathy though, after the way they're carrying on, turning the whole thing into a farce. Shut the feck up and get on with it!

Still, hope they stuff you next week.

I dont think their goal was unfairly not given, he pushed Vidic from behind so he could get the header, obvious freekick.

haven't some games in Germany been replayed in the past when refereeing errors have been made?

nothing will happen other than the ref will be relegated to UEFA cup matches for the rest of the season.

There was nothing wrong with Giggs goal, we've seen quick free kicks like that numerous times before in the Premiership. That said theirs was a goal as well, unless the Lille attacker managed to pull off one of Bruce Lee's one inch punches on Vidic.

We only got to see the replay of the Vidic situation from one angle, it looked like he was pushed from behind.

The angle I've seen it was from behind Vidic as the Lille player scored, and it didn't look like much contact to be fair.

for me, lille should be kicked out of europe. not checking tickets in this day and age, after hilborough is disgraceful. My heart was in my mouth when I saw the images, and I was furious when reading the reports.

This is just their way of deflecting attention away from the real issue.

This whole situation is plain silly. They are in trouble, they know it and so does everyone else. The goal was legit. They are just trying to deflect and so ease the punishement they will recieve.

I do have sympathy over their disallowed goal. Seen them given, seen them not.

Who said it was?

If not why not?

Giggs even waited for permission from the referee. Although why he should even have to wait for permission, I'm not sure. Was some ruling made on this? As far as I can tell there's nothing in the rules saying he has to wait.
