i reckon a few of the players might need to avail of that service tonight, wayne, if the look on rafa's face towards the end of the match was anything to go by.

the result wasn't even the worst of it tonight - garcia and gonzo getting so badly injured really piles on the heat to make some key purchases in the january window. no doubt we'll be held over a barrel with the prices for replacements.

yeah I agree we are so far behind arsenal (by 3points I think).

I mean, they only have a 10 year head start on their buy youngsters policy, and we are still hamstrung by playing local players. We should do like arsenal and sell anyone who is english or local and focus on purely overseas talent.

Rafa has been here two years now, and none of the 16 year olds he bought are in the first team yet. why not?

I don't understand your point. We've fallen behind Arsenal in youth development despite our huge fanfare of our 'multimillion pound academy' we aren't doing anywhere near as well as them in bringing young players through.

If you've watched the reserves, ours aren't good enough, I don't need to qualify that, I've seen it with my own eyes. We need to bring in more talented players

do we struggle to bring in the talented foreign youngsters because of where we are geographically?

Arsenal have a seemingly endless line of young foreign players, do they go there because it is London? do these kids want to stay and play in a part of the Uk where they can find people from their own country to hang out with?

they had kids playing there tonight who looked so comfy with the ball at their feet and they played in the same manner as the Arsenal 1st team, quick passes and good movement off the ball.

by contrast, the few youngsters we had out there looked like the ball was something to get rid of quick and lash upfield.

there is no easy solution to this possible problem. maybe we go like Chelsea and buy a squad of proven internationals and never play kids because we have 2 teams of decent ability.

Rafa has something to work on and decisions to make.

WATERSHED

we are so fare behind what Arsenal are doing with young talent.

We are slipping away.

FFS, thats because Wenger was busy scouting/signing these young kids years before Rafa even got here! In the days of Petit, Anelka and Overmars, where were these young kids? It takes a f***load of time to bring these types of players through, Rafa has had less than 3 seasons here.

That has a lot to do with it as well.

In the days of Anelka? Anelka was a young talent he spotted wasn't he, also Viera was in that side. Wenger's record in this area is second to none, we look a long way off in this area.

For Anelka and Viera, read Momo and Agger - these are young players of exceptional talent bought for the first team. Wenger has the lead on these lads who play the Carling Cup, plus they've a fair bit more PL experience than ours.

sarcasm noted, but what part of Liverpool is Paletta from?

Average age of our side last night was 25, average age of Arsenal last night was 20. Rafa hardly played a team of youngsters last night.

True, but all the French players he bought around this time, had spent a lot of time at Clarefontaine. They may have been unknown in the UK, but in France these players were all highly thought of.

PSG were very unhappy that Anelka, who they regarded as their brightest prospect, was basically poached for a nominal fee. Viera was also regarded as a hot prospect and was at Milan before Arsenal purchased him. He was only sold, because he had suffered a serious knee injury and Milan had an abundance of central midfielders and for a price of £3 million.

I dont intend to criticise Wenger as his signings have been very astute, but the players he purchased at this time were highly thought of in France.

Its interesting that no one mentions ethics with Arsenal either. Cesc, Anelka, Merida, Clichy, and I think Song and Toure. The way they got these players meant the club that developed them missed out on a lot of potential revenue and recognition.
