have a £6million tester from West Ham for Bellamy (express) and Alves a £10million target for Chelsea (mirror)...

The Times says we won't have the spending power of Chelsea despite the takeover

or, nobody knows.

Is true at this stage. All we can say for sure is if they do complete the deal, we will be better off.

i completely forgot the express even existed.

Their world stopped turning on Sunday, 31 August 1997 - and every frontpage since has reflected this.

We will, we just won't use it in an arbitrary and gamesmanlike way that they do.

I don't want to seem like I'm being soft here but why did you post the first comment if you post the second one. We don't know. The Times doesn't know yet you go on to acknowledge as much yet you post comment one. Why? Just mindless optimism?

I think we know enough of Moores and Benitez to beleive that they'll be doing things without anything like the level of avarice and c***ery displayed by that other lot. Or Chelsea.

Up to a point, yes I suppose so :) If the deal goes through, (Dee's premise about spending) then we will be better off and knowing how much pride the new lads take in their projects they will make sure Rafa is well funded - then Paul caruso posted, 'we don't know' which at this moment is of course true, so i was being optimistic in reply to the first post, but still am sure given the stadium funding and the quotes from DIC reps in the last day or two we will have money to spend of atype we're certainly not used to, should (again) it all go through smoothly.

I believe that the express usually reports something alng the lines that Dodi and or Princess Di was going to be involved in a bid for Liverpool but the establishment didn't want that to happen and so on and so on and that it has all be supressed by a compliant media who are part of one enourmous conspiracy

I don't even want to be reminded that odious rag still exists

So, in summary, we don't know.

bottom line is that no-one will ever have the spending power Chelsea has because theirs is not based on any sort of economic financial basis...some lad last week posted the players that Chelsea have sold - all for less than they have been bought for...no-one's quite sure about the legitimacy of all the money used to buy these players but its good old bona fide £££ now...buy high and sell for less...you decide what financial imperative is driving that operation....

Randy Lerner, Mr Glazer, the Dubai crowd - all mean that we will be financially very strong with a long term strategy for on and off field success because that's what guarantees financial rewards...the only possible alternative is asset stripping and seeing exactly what can be sold to line your pockets...whilst this may well happen at some stage in football (and UTD fans are rightly wary of this ) the sheer political and reputational fall-out would be catastrophic....

so no-one will compete with what is essentially a very expensive plaything that serves the purpose of legitimating both reputation and finances, but we should hopefully be better off...
