or at least have serious reservations

mods, I thought this might be better in its own thread so we can isolate the dissenters and publicly burn them

I have some reservations - as you know, I've been worried all along that Moores and Parry may lose their status with the club in the shake up

sorry to keep harping on about the ame old thing but I am now very worried that these two bastions of LFC will unfairly get pushed aside after having put in so much good work

I thought you blamed Parry, mate? Serious question

The only thing that would worry me is how much interest they will have in club affairs. Will they be like Moores, or like Romonov?

Posted (edited)

I can understand why you would have reservations about it. i feel that Moores has done a lot for the club and deserves a role such as life president or something of that sort. We are indebted to the Moores family anyway and hope that they keep an active interest. However going by the past pursuits of the Sheikh it seems that they will be able to finance the ambition.

Do you think your reservations have something to do with the background ie an Arab taking over with all the geopolitical intricacies it seems to bring with it? I can understand that concern to be honest..

My only reservation is whether I'll be able to buy an Arab head dress in Liverworld

I didn't want a takeover while the name Steve Morgan was being banded about.

But the fact is, if we are to compete at the very top in the future both team wise, and stadium wise, we have to have investment, it's that simple. We can't have it both ways, have the more homely family feel, and have the clout to compete at the top.

So I want this takeover, I just didn't want any old takeover :)

Your not alone - but its had to happen I realise that

Its great news in a way but we will be seen as the new Chelsea by others if what happens happens

I am resigned to the fact of a takeover, and have been for a while, knowing that to "compete" it's necessary. Failure to do that would leave us, over time, a mid-table team in the current "business" of football where money DOES translate to on pitch success in most cases

As I said earlier, we could do a lot worse than the Dubai crowd who tend to do things for the long term and as RP said months ago when their name first cropped up, they do things to win.

Would I rather the status quo and Moores won the Eurobillions lottery? Yes I would.

Am I delighted with the "thought" of being able to buy Kaka? Oddly, no.

Am I delighted with the possibility of Moores/Parry left doing the day-to-day for the time-being, and Rafa having had some discussions with these two about it and got comfortable? Absolutely

Posted

To compete at the very top like we have in the past, I think it's clear Moores is not going to sustain us. We need something like this and so as much money as we can get, with as little interference as possible will do for me.

A bit unlikely I admit, but Morgan was neither rich or competant enough, neither were L4 as far as I could tell.

I'd really like to know their intentions though, do they expect to turn a profit year on year? Surely even the best run football clubs make feck all compared to what they are used to.

Do they plan on building us up and in a few years floating us on the stock exchange at a big profit? Not the safest return I wouldn't have thought?

Or are we a vehicle to promote Dubai throughout the world, We are a global brand they can attach themselves to? in which case success on the pitch is paramount.

Dunno.

Like to know more.

Just because you have a load of money doesn't mean you have to act like dicks.

Yes, we'll be accused of buying the league if we do win it, but it will be tempered that we will have a level playing field unlike the present where the is only chelski. I also do not expect us to spend anywhere near as much as the half a billion pounds they've spent to get there. Nor should we, a top manager would not need to.

Also, I really don't want to see a parade of disposable rent-boys who wouldn't be near the place without the huge salaries. This is were Rafa and Parry come in. If a player does not jump at the chance, or has turned us down in the past, lets not pursue them. The pursuit of shevchenko was embarrassing, clearly only came because the money went SO high, same with Ballack, Crespo, SWP etc.

I want our players to come for the club, the atmosphere, the history, and then become honorary scousers like Hamann, Sami, Alonso etc. We need our heroes.

I'd describe my feelings as cautiously pleased. If this ends up being a done deal then the next few years are going to be very interesting indeed. We have to remember that money is no guarantee of success though. I'm sure Mourinho will be out on his ear this year if Chelsea fail to win the Champions League.

It's a sign of the times, that's all. Inevitable.

If we spend 200 million on players and win the league a few times will I love the club more than I do now? No. Maybe I'll love it a little less, I can't say.

I'm disgusted with the whole football industry nowadays, I can't relate to much about the game anymore. This doesn't help.

I pretty much agree with all that.

When DIC took over Tussaud's (including Alton Towers) and Travelodge, did they get rid of the existing management structure ?

For practical reasons of geography DIC executives will not be able to spend as much time as is necessary in Liverpool, thats why I think they will want and need to keep Rick Parry running the club for them.

I don't think DIC would have anyone experienced in football business like Rick P is, and they aren't daft they'll be well aware that he has unparalleled qualification for the role of chief exec of LFC.

Personally i'd be gutted if Rick Parry were to step aside but I just can't see it happening. Everything points to business as usual but with a little more financial ambition.

Goes for me too I think. Not nearly so connected as I used to be. Very different to me now.

the new stadium and a bit extra so we can buy the players we need every now and again will do me.

i really don't see there being big changes.

i agree for the most part, but maybe i'm a bit more philosophical about the inevitability of this takeover.

my concerns are that the spirit of the club may be diluted and that we may be tempted to throw money around to secure success. much as i love LFC and want it to achieve the kind of success that was so hard-fought-for from the days of shankly through to dalglish, i'd much prefer to see a competitive league where (traditionally) smaller teams aren't just fodder.

for the former, i'd like to see messrs moores & parry kept on in their posts with a fair degree of autonomy in the running of the club as a Liverpool institution.

the latter, i fear, is a pipe dream. we'll end up being in an elite group of about four clubs capable of winning the league each season.

what have we been doing for the past 16 years?

I share the concerns about potentially losing the family orientated soul of the club but it wouldn't half be nice buying top players every summer instead of gambling on players whilst working under tight financial contraints.

not achieving the same level of success?

have we not spent a lot of money doing that?

have we not spent a lot of money doing that?

hasn't the majority of premiership clubs done that? if you haven't grasped my original point, it's that hard work and intelligent appointments have been at the heart of our success down the years. i don't want money to supersede that ethic.

Mixed feelings at the moment. Could be fantastic but my worries

1. What will they take out of the club as a financial return?

2. Will they interfere with Rafa - buy glam players etc?

The club could become a circus/plaything.
