Pass and move it's the Liverpool groove

We finally have pace on the wings, we have front men who can drop deeper, hold it up, and create space for midfield runners, we also have two strong attacking full backs. We have a guy, in Momo who can clean up any counterattacks. However, why does it seem that recently we are playing in flat banks of 4, 4 and 2? No triangles, but long diagonals or playing it sideways a la Batty.

We rarely get a midfielder beyond their defense. Don't get the full backs overlapping. Our movement is generally s***.

Even ten yard passes are going astray or are second-guessed. We just don't seem to create angles for the pass.

Personally I feel it's time to make the most of what we have in terms of personnel and go to a 3-5-2 type formation, with our best passers, and have Agger, Hyppia, Carra at cb with Momo sweeping up in front. Then Xabi and Stevie slightly more advanced, with Riise/gonzales and Finnan/pennant out wide. Play two up front with Gerrard in the less anchored midfield role to play between the lines and with our forwards splitting off to create angles for the wide men, allowing our midfield to break through their banks of lines. Pennant, Garcia and Gonzales to bring on to make the most out of tired legs if need be.

Also, take SG off corners and put him and xabi on the box for second balls.

We are playing very flatly and need to sort it out sharpish.

most of our players when they reveived the ball, they just stand like feckin statue-then they try to do difficult pass, some diognal ball. long ball fecker.

why not carry the ball little bit?, turning, watsoever trick do you have.

look at barca midfielder- xavi, iniesta, deco always very comfortable on the ball, make space available for received the pass.

even our alonso sometime just stand there, our CB look feckin terrified/overcatious to pass to him even it s only 10 yards!

pass on the deck! pass on the deck!

MOVE your ass! MOVE your ass!

you ll win feckin everything.

Although I would love to see us play like we used to 10 years ago or so we just don?t have the quality to do so. We don?t have enough quality players, bar perhaps 2 or 3, that can receive the ball, hold on to it, and pass it to a teammate. Last season we were an excellent defensive/counter-attacking side where everyone's job was defending but now when Rafa tries to make us an attacking force we just don?t have enough quality attacking players. Kewell is still our best winger and Gerrard is still our biggest attacking threat. Rafa's policy of buying quantity over quality is not working and players like Pennant, Bellamy, Gonzalez, Crouch, Kuyt, Sissoko, Zenden and Aurelio get found out against quality opposition. I think we should revert to last season's tactics: 5 in midfield, 1 upfront, defend and counter-attack and grind out results.

Watched Arsenal play yesterday and thought why can't we attempt to play like that? Not saying we should do it as good as them but at least attempt to do it like them

It's all about movement off the ball, and that's what makes Arsenal such a good side for such a long period. 90 year old grannies that Rooney shagged would have better movement than our players

And yes, please take Gerrard off corners, the simple fact is he cannot take a corner.

You're right, Arsenal is all about movement. There are some basic footballers in their squad, but you'd not pick it up because they move so well for each other and create space for simple incisive balls

That is a very sore point for me -- that Arsenal plays much better pass and move football than Liverpool. Actually to call Liverpool's current style of play pass and move would be stretching the definition.

pretty football requires confidence as much as talent. we've scored some great team goals already this season, particularly at home.

the worry is our confidence seems very easily dented away from anfield.

Gerrard should not be allowed to take another corner in his life.

Stick him in the middle where he's a danger - and away from the corners where he's crap

agree entirely with this. we've got aurelio, gonzalez, bellamy, alonso, even riise and garcia all of whom can knock a better corner than gerrard.

Totally agree with that especially the second part.

We started really well against the mancs and all it took was a few decisions to go against us and we were in bits.

We've started every away game well this season (well, except Sheff Utd maybe). Well enough to suggest we should be getting something out of the game at least. Fail to make it count for anything and the first sign of the other team getting into it and we give up the ghost.

Pass and move, that used to be Liverpool's groove. Nowadays things are a bit different................................

Totally. Think that with pretty much every big player being short of form/fitness it means there's not enough on the pitch talking and using their head. Everyone trying to get themselves back at once and no one doing the simple things. That's why seeing a bit more of Zenden wouldn't be a disaster and why seeing nothing of Hamann is.
