Liverpool ace Luis Garcia has vowed to prove he is worth a new deal at Anfield.

The Spanish midfielder has just over a year to run on his current contract with the FA Cup holders.

Garcia is determined to win a new contract as he insists he is happy on Merseyside.

The former Barcelona man has struggled to hold down a regular place in Rafa Benitez's side this season, but he is hoping to catch the eye of his manager.

"It is important that I regain the confidence of Rafa Benitez," said Garcia.

"I have not played many matches this season, so I need to remind him of why he brought me to Liverpool.

"I will never cheat on Rafa. Every time I play for him, I will do my best to play well and either make or score goals for the team.

"I'm happy at the club, so whenever the club wants to speak to me about a new contract, I will be pleased to talk

"I am sure that if I do well this season on the pitch Liverpool will offer me a new contract."

Luis can be a very frustrating player to watch at times but he always has those few moments of brilliance that make him worth it. I really hope he stays because on his day he is a pleasure to watch. If he were more consistent he could be a truly world class player.

Every time he's played I thought he's looked one of our better players. No idea why he doesn't start considering we've lacked so much up front.

The Chelsea game baffled me. Against 10 men and no one had any ideas. Look to the bench...No Garcia.

Strange. He's one of the few players currently who I'd have thought needs to win over the manager this season so far.

Quite frankly I think Pennant has been very lucky to get a start ahead of him. I would like to see Rafa use him as a winger one of these days I think his pace could cause FB's some trouble. IMO Pennant is not a winger as he tends to cut inside way too much. I thought when Luis was at Barca he played more as a winger.

He's our most creative player, whatever people think about him giving the ball away or what not, we always look so much more dangerous in the final third when he's around

And I think he's improving on those negative aspects of his game and he's as good as he's ever been, yet he ain't getting the amount of starts that he deserves.

Looks like you've got your wish tonight :) Great to see him and crouch and Bellamy all start, expecting goals from Mr Garcia tonight!

I am sure Rafa is delighted to know Luis will never cheat on him

Thought Luis had a pretty good game last night, unfortunate with the a ball over to Kuyt at the end that got headed out (I thought he should have been able to clear the last defender to be honest), but a good game. Fully expect him to be on the bench on Sunday (Or rested).;)

So you don't think Pennant is a winger, yet Garcia is?

Because Garcia has pace that "could cause FBs some trouble"?

Have you ever seen Garcia play,he's really not very quick.

I really don't get the "he a frustrating player" bit. He isn't. He's a fantastic talent with the ability to (and often does) turn a game.

Gerrard can be a frustrating player, Xabi is this season. It can be thrown at anyone. I think he's absolutely irreplaceable

He's frustrating because he seems to constantly mess up attacks that we are building with a stupid flick or dummy when it's not needed. If he did this all the time he'd be a bad player, but because we know he can do it it is frustrating for us.

Look at the Blackburn game - he came on brought a bit of urgency to our game, then proceeded to try and dummy the balol to no-one thus ending our little spell of dominance.
