Few months ago, rafa was int he Echo and that talking about how Crouch had to keep working, not let it go to his head, etc, etc.

Since then, Kuyt and Bellamy have arrived, and Crouch has had very few league appearances, particularly with his goalscoring form for England, and the couple he got in Europe.

Where does he stand now, do peopel reckon? Is he beign rested as a result of his international exertions? Is there any suggestion that he might have slacked off in training, or anythign of that nature? Or is he simply no longer first choice?

I guess Rafa can't fool himself to believe that Crouch is anything else than a average CCC-player at his best any longer. About time to be honest.

where does Crouch stand? He's one of our top 2 forwards, thats where he stands.

Hope he plays more than he has been doing so far this season.

We'd be better off for it.

I think I've seen Rafa quoted as saying Crouchy needs to keeping working hard and not let his success go to his head (or words to that effect) on at least 3 occasions in the last 4/5 months. To me that suggests he's a bit worried that Crouchy isn't concentrating on his footie as much as he was.

But as for where he stands - he's one of the 3 forwards we'll be rotating regularly. ;)

this is a really good topic. i cant work it out with ol' crouch. he has a good run, but whilst being first choice for england and getting rather a lot of goals cant get into rafa's first team. i'd really like to know from ppl connected to the club what their thoughts are ... i've given up trying to find logic here so a sniff of a local rumour would reallly give the old grey cells a bit of a workout

I think for the role that Rafa sees Crouch in the ball doesn't stick enough and the knock on effect is Kuyt taking Crouch's role. Personally, my opinion, I can't see both of them playing that much together.

I love Crouch but I also think he can be quite irratating. The way I see him is he is either Superb or ineffective.

personally, i see crouch as someone who can hold the ball up well away from home, europe, someone who has a great touch to lay off to someone else to create the open chance. At home, we should have the creativity, the backing from fans, knowing our home to do this 2nd nature. Crouch will be important away from home, utd, ars, euro competition without going all guns blazing!

I think Crouch stands exactly where he should in a Liverpool squad with a total of four strikers. He will be played away a lot, and all strikers will be given games. Rafa has always said this, I don't understand why there is still confusion over this. Oh, hang on, the sensationalism in the media perhaps?

er... because e lays, has a good game and then gets dropped. thats going to hit a persons confidence and have an effect on consistancy for both crouch and the rest of the team

It's ironic that he has done a complete u-turn since last year. Last season for large stretches he was a striker who couldn't score to save his own life but was in the team on merit of his good allround play.

Now he plays like sh*t yet is probably our most clinical finisher.

That's simply because Fowler never plays!

Most clinical finisher....you've got to be kidding. He's scored a few, clinical? never!

i was in the kop, and from where i was stood, there were two brilliant crossed balls from my left that went straight across the face of goal, he seemed to stop and watch. he aint clinical, and he doesnt anticipate things that will happen, ( which is what all great goalscorers have) but on his day he is a very important member of the team.

today though, he was poor. he did look wasted from the internationals, and i hope that was the reason why he didnt play well. the next game he can put it right after some rest.

He's a very average footballer imho..not particularly good in the air especially for a tall man, slow to react and slow across the ground.Useful in some games to bring on and capable of scoring the odd very good goal such as against Gala but not at all sure he's good enough for a regular place at LFC and nowehere near as effective as Kuyt.

his goal tally for this calendar year is top class. I haven't checked it but I would be surprised if he wasn't our top goal scorer for 2006.

Perhaps I'm not the best person to comment on Crouch but he makes the Ref's job so easy by reaching back and grabbing the defenders when challenging for the ball. He wonvery few headers today while the likes of Alonso got stuck in and won more than their fair share.

Like Allez I watched him flick a leg at the ball or not go for it at all rather than anticipating the delivery and busting his b******s to get on the end of it, likewise loose balls in the box or closing down in the opposition third, it was non-existant.

Hopefully it was because he was tired from internationals (athough he's had more than a few performances like that now) and he'll get back to the workrate pre-debut goal because at the moment he's just not doing it.

Needs to work on his aerial ability, agression, anticipation and recently his workrate. Maybe he needs a knock at international level to bring him back down to earth.
